Reaching for efficiency [Sep. 14th, 2003|10:26 pm]

[Current Mood |crankycranky]

I'm teaching myself to take notes on the computer rather than one notebook paper. This is mostly a matter of getting myself situated and organized, but there are limitations. Word won't allow me to easily scribble three words sideways that tie two cases together, or sketch a quick diagram. Notes is useless, since they are curmudgeonly about printing off and confusing if you manage. And I must get a new printer, as this one smears ink all about, underlining things with off smudges (all attempts at cleaning, realigning, replacing cartridges, have been to no avail).

I know, intellectually, that I will be saving time in the long run. When it comes time to do concise outlines for the finals, I will be able to glean the information already typed, rather than working from Ground Zero.

Right now, though, it counts as a giant pain in the butt. I am on a steep enough learning curve without throwing in a whole new way of preparing for class. But if not now, when?

Hi, just found your journal. You might want to set up a word document with two columns, one wide, for general note taking, and the other narrow, so you can do your margin jotting there. You still won't be able to write sideways, but you can block off a space

Wow, excellent suggestion. I can just make a template for that.

Hi! Don't know how you found me, but glad you did! I've added you to my friends list!

I added you too. I'm new to LJ and I don't know if that's cool (etiquette-wise) without telling someone, but I ran across your journal last night because you had public radio or npr on your list of interests. I listen to NPR all the time and volunteer every year during the fund raising drive. Saw your page and liked it. Anyway, nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you, too. I used to volunteer, now I just plain don't have time - something to get back to once I'm through with working my way through law school.

I really liked your profile, too. Write lots!

Picking up an old thread

A friend of mine told me about this program. She thinks she likes it. What made me think of you is that it has a separate column for the purpose of taking notes 'in the margin.'

I haven't tried it yet, but I plan to look at it this weekend.
