I'm teaching myself to take notes on the computer rather than one notebook paper. This is mostly a matter of getting myself situated and organized, but there are limitations. Word won't allow me to easily scribble three words sideways that tie two cases together, or sketch a quick diagram. Notes is useless, since they are curmudgeonly about printing off and confusing if you manage. And I must get a new printer, as this one smears ink all about, underlining things with off smudges (all attempts at cleaning, realigning, replacing cartridges, have been to no avail).
I know, intellectually, that I will be saving time in the long run. When it comes time to do concise outlines for the finals, I will be able to glean the information already typed, rather than working from Ground Zero.
Right now, though, it counts as a giant pain in the butt. I am on a steep enough learning curve without throwing in a whole new way of preparing for class. But if not now, when?
