Double-fisted holiday cheer [Dec. 25th, 2003|07:00 pm]

For the first time in many months, both Ferrett and I have a moment of slack when we aren't completely emotionally and mentally exhausted. And it is Christmas. So we have been calling friends and family.

And calling.

And calling.

The drawback of telephone calls is that one spouse gets to talk and laugh while the other hovers nearby, hoping to pick up the gist of the conversation. It's a bit like watching half a tennis match - whoa, where did that lob come from--too late, off at another angle.

Ah, but modern technology has led to a solution: the cell phone. No, not three-way conversations, but two different conversations going on at the same time, him with his family and mine with a friend. It's efficient, it's effective, and no one feels bored or left out.

The down side are those few awkward moments when you're on the cell phone and the other phone rings. Two people yelling, "can you get that?!" followed by someone with a phone on each ear.

We have wished many Merrys now, and have a quiet evening ahead of us. Thank you to everyone for the good wishes and love. We are filled with its glowing white light.

dunno how your phone line network is set up over there but if you have 2 phones on the one line here two people can talk to whoever has called your place at the same time. very useful!

Oh, and we did both pick up extensions and talk to the same party now and again. Mostly, though, we were calling different parties and doubling up the efficiency.
