O. Henry strikes again [Dec. 25th, 2003|08:32 pm]

From my mother: She decided to give my stepfather a DVD player for Christmas. She watched, grinning from ear to ear, as he opened it. He got kind of a funny look on his face. He said, "Um, you should open this box..."

A DVD player from him to her.

They both had a good giggle and he pointed out that it was obviously a good gift since they'd both thought it was a good gift. One will be exchanged for DVDs to play.

I was so tickled for them that I ordered the "Felowship of the Ring" extended DVD for them from Amazon while Mom and I were talking. Cary loved the movies, but she had only been able to find Two Towers locally (they are down to one car since their move so she was limited in her ability to get out shopping). He actually cheered when she told him what I was sending.

*snickers*

We've had that happen in my family before. This year the big doubles were DVDs -- my brother proudly brings out the copy of Pirates of the Caribbean that he (in total defiance of holiday custom!) bought for himself for us to watch on Christmas Eve. I gave him his present, which was the same thing. Then Santa managed to give me two Two Towers Extended Editions, as my mother completely forgot she'd bought it and sent a frantic email to my dad, making him brave Best Buy on Christmas Eve to get it!

O! Henry!

My brother and I did much the same thing - we both got each other a set of antique cufflinks.

Hey, you'll get called out in public tomorrow... But thanks, man. Thanks!

My husband and I did that a few years ago. We gave each other Fry Daddys because I was making some really awesome buffalo shrimp at the time. I opened his first and then I gave him a smaller version of the one he gave me. So now I guess we always have a back up! LOL

the year of giving dangerously...

My girlfriend is a big Winnie the Pooh fan, so when I saw the new watch in the Avon Catalog (via a coworker), I ordered it.I addressed it to her from "Pooh". Apparently her father and step-mother thought it was the perfect present as well. She opened theirs first and I shrugged and said, "Avon does returns, right?"

Seems also that "Pirates of the Caribbean" is also a hot present. I received one copy from Dawny's mother, and my mother told me that my sister bought it for me as well. I know Best Buy does returns...heh.

Re: the year of giving dangerously...

Pirates is definitely a hot gift. Ferrett gave me my copy at the beginning of the month, out of fear that I wouldn't be able to hold out.

Re: the year of giving dangerously...

heh. Let me guess...it's the whole "Johnny Depp in eyeliner" thing, right? Were I the jealous type, I wouldn't let my girlfriend watch the movie ever again. I'm sooo hoping that it gets heaped with awards this year. If it does, other movies of this genre can be successfully produced for the awaiting masses.

Happy Holidays, Zoethe!

Re: the year of giving dangerously...

I'm not really that big on Johnny Depp, it's simply his hysterical performance that won me over. It's a fun, fun movie.

My friend Julie and her husband did that this year with MP3 players. They're both happy though, so they're keeping them.

MP3 players I can see keeping both - it's a personal listening system. Mom and Cary, though, hardly need two DVD players in their little 2-bedroom house!
