Kristi update [Sep. 8th, 2004|11:55 am]
Zoethe
[Current Mood |mellowmellow]

Kristi is now scheduled for surgery on September 30. She will be in the hospital for 7-10 days after the surgery, then home for 2-3 weeks of recovery, then back into the hospital for 2-3 weeks of monitored step-down on the pain killers.

In other words, the poor darling is stuck here, away from her own home and her own things and her own family, until almost Thanksgiving. Assuming everything goes smoothly.

She is making good use of the waiting period and banking her own blood in case she needs a transfer during surgery. But that is a long time to be away from home. I can't imagine it - I'd go crazy. Particularly since she can't read very long before getting nauseated, and she doesn't like television much, and Dayna has gone home, leaving her without that help and companionship.

She may volunteer to long-box Ferrett's comic collection after all, just to keep from going out of her skull from boredom.

She will still bounce back and forth between my place and Michele's since Michele is happy for the company and they were always so close. But it's nice for Ferrett - and me, for that matter - to have a chance to get to know my sisters so much better. We've spent time with his family but mine isn't in striking distance on a car trip, so we've only been out there once.

As we observed a couple times, it would be nice if this were under better circumstances, but under better circumstances, she would never have come out here. Such is life.

Thank you. That is a very generous offer. We are starting from family members and working our way out, but if they think she'll need more than we can bank, I will contact you.

Kristi is in my prayers (or at least she's been written into my prayer book).

If there's anything I can do...

May the pain ease in Kristi's body.

May the rifts in your family mend.

May you all become whole in due time.

Mostly I just wish there was more I could do.

Has she ever given audio books a try? Most libraries can get a wide variety of fiction, non-fic, relaxation, meditation and anything else which might be of interest.

I have found hypnosis/relaxation tapes very, very helpful in dealing with 20+ years of chronic pain.

Nice that you can be having such a postitive experience, given the circumstances.

Actually, Ferrett has an audible.com subscription so is going to burn her a bunch of books on CD and I will loan her my discman. That will help.

Hypnosis tapes are a good idea, too. I may have to look at their selection of such.

I am a great believer in finding the silver lining in every situation, because there usually is one someplace.

Blumindy, can you name any specific company/series/whatever of hypnosis/relaxation tapes that you're rather fond of?

I've noticed that I either love or hate the ones I run across.
