Another way George Bush has made the world safer [Oct. 14th, 2004|10:40 am]

Remember John Kerry talking in the first debate about how during the invasion of Iraq the U.S. guarded the oil facilities but didn't bother guarding the nuclear facilities? And how is still wasn't guarding the nuclear facilities? Well, that decision is now coming back to bite us in the butt. Seems that nuclear power materials and equipment has gone missing, and we're not talking about a couple hammers. Entire buildings have been dismantled.

This morning on NPR I heard a new report that the looting has been going on since we arrived a year or so ago and that it has been systematic, steady, and apparently ignored until now. Hans Blix was interviewed and you could hear the frustration in his voice. When the inspectors were in there they kept track of this stuff. They demanded accountability. Now no one has any idea what's going on, and in the chaos who knows where the materials that the U.N. inspectors were keeping track of went?

Tell me again how this invasion isn't about oil and how the safety and freedom of the Iraqi people are our highest priorities???

Ugh. I was already livid when I heard how after the invasion the oil ministry was guarded while the museums were allowed to be plundered. But this is unbelievable. Not guarding the nucular facilities? Non-proliferation my hairy ass.

I can't go a day without hearing something that disappoints me anew in this government.

I heard that interview too! I was saying the same thing to my radio, "Yeah, but we protected the oil ministry." Nevermind antiquities, nevermind history, nevermind nuclear freaking technology. And who knows who has it now.

The only sure bet is that whoever has it is someone we wish didn't....

I remembered hearing Bush say it, being outraged by it at the time. To hear him deny it yesterday was astounding. I just hope and pray that every news show out there runs the segments side by side.

The motivation behind this invasion and oil field grab freedom mission has been only thinly disguised by the smokescreen produced by BushCo. Cheney's Energy Task Force held hearing on financial opportunities in Iraq more than 12 months prior to the invasion, before the first UN sanction votes. KBR received a no-bid contract to secure and operate the oil fields before the first shot was fired.

I am still waiting for the jubilant newly-freed Iraqi's to shower us with flower petals while paying for their own reconstruction. Also, closely watching for flying pigs and ice-skating devils.

I still don't think it was about oil. I think, from his perspective, it was about staging a backdrop for Shrub to remain in office an extra term. "If ya wanna be a two-term president, kid, ya gotta have a war." Oil is too complex a concept for Dubya to handle.

Not sure what the heck the people who *really* run the country were thinking. Since it's only made oil prices worse.

Oil too complex? His whole life has centered on it.

And it's not making oil prices worse for the people who are selling the oil, only those who have to buy it.

my mother and myself were both livid before the first shot was even fired. we were positive then as many people are positive now that it was about oil and only oil. i mean after all look at where the Bushes come from - oil. Look at where cheney comes from - oil. Hmmm.... why was it such a hard concept for everyone else to pick up at the time?

i think i am going to call about my absentee ballot this morning.

Definitely do. It's still a close race, for reasons I cannot comprehend. They have sold us down the river to line their own pockets.

I would tell you, but you've already made up your mind. I'd have just about as much luck convincing you of that as I would that abortion is murder and should be banned.

Michael

ps - Hans Blix is just another failed UN drone.

i don't know how common they are around where you live, but probably half the cars around here have some sort of "support our troops" ribbon magnet stuck on them somewhere.

one of my friends said that she saw one... stuck prominently to the door to the gas cap. ouch. what a reminder.

I still support the troops. I just think it's sad what they are fighting for.
