Amy called yesterday morning at 11:15, terrified. She was performing her first vocal solo at a recital that afternoon, and she was very, very nervous. Ferrett and I both assured her that feeling this way was perfectly normal and that even rock stars get nervous before getting on stage. She felt a little better, but was still dreading the experience.
At around 5 she called back. Flying. The recital had gone very well, and the head of the Cape Cod Conservatory had sought out John and Sue after she sang to comment that he had never heard such excellent tone and pitch from a 12-year-old before. Amy said that he had expressed amazement at her youth.
"How many other kids were singing today?" I asked.
None. Everyone else was an adult, or at least in their late teens.
I wish I could have been there.
Amy is coming for MLK weekend, and bringing a copy of the tape. I can't wait to see it.
