Weekend [Apr. 11th, 2005|07:33 am]

[Current Mood |blahMonday blah]

Best cure for school burnout? Looking at the calendar and realizing that you only have three weeks of classes left in the semester. Yeep!

Had a good weekend. Got a lot of homework done, though not as much as I probably should have. Saw friends, which is something we've hardly done with the insanity of my schedule. Got in the first bike ride of the season - yay! Last year I think I managed to get on my bike all of twice. This year will be different.

Went to the new shopping center, Crocker Park, on Friday evening for our date night. We wandered through the new Trader Joe's but didn't buy anything because we were just window shopping. Went to Barnes & Noble. There I finally located a book I had heard about and wanted to read but hadn't been able to find. I pulled it off the shelf and looked at the cover.

It's an awful feeling to realize, once you're looking at it, that you're pretty sure actually did buy this book a while back, and it must be hiding in the house somewhere. (Yes, I did find it when I got home.) I'm only going a little insane....

Oh, and Kristi is doing GREAT since her surgery. She's still recovering, but feels better than she's felt in years. Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers.

i"m glad that Krisiti is feeling better.....as for the book...I've actually bought the book, brought it home only to see that I have it already....so you realizing it before you buy it is great..... also, three weeks more before the semester is ended is livableI'll start countdown....21 and holding!

I know what you mean about the book - I've done the same thing, except I bought another copy and then stumbled upon the first copy later on. Argh! Oh well, they make good gifts. :)

I'm glad your sister is doing well! :) May she have many good years ahead of her.

Add me to the list of people glad to hear Kristi is mending.

I used to think of Trader Joe's as special-occasion shopping, then I realized that you can eat better cheaper by shopping there, though it takes willpower to avoid overindulging the copious sweets and salties. But their hormone-free milk is less than anyone else's store-brand, and it tastes better. Their Cheerio equivalent (Joe's O's) is about half the cost of a box of Cheerios, and tastes exactly the same. I probably do about 90% of my grocery shopping there, now, not even counting PEERS buffet food.

It's a little out of our way, and we were a bit overwhelmed by the sheer volume of great choices, but I think we will come to know it well.

Joining the chorus of people who are happy that all is well :)

As for the school thing...boy, you said it. MCAT in less than 1 week. ARGH!
Just three more weeks. Three more weeks.

I'm just starting to get a feeling of where you're at. The difference (and it's a big one) is that I get paid to study, but a 90 min commute, 9 hours of classes, another 90 min commute, dinner, a bit of homework and bed is starting to be my new routine.

Brutal commute. Are you driving it, or can you take public transportation?

I'm driving, but that's because the PT takes about 30 minutes longer each way. Getting used to it though, and it's all for a good cause.

I wonder if it wouldn't be a more efficient use of your time to use PT and study on the bus/train. You're aleardy losing 90 minutes of your life each way, and having to spend time at home studying, so it might be a good compromise.

(I know it wouldn't for me, since law books do not lend themselves to that kind of study, but at finals time when I'm only working with my outlines I do so.)

I thought the same thing. I found I could do a bit of superficial study on the train, but I've arranged a carpool with some people who I pick up on the way to class and we have a kind of study group going on. It all seems to work ok.

You mean you didn't even buy any windows? :-)

Glad to hear Kristi's doing better. It's really been a rough road that she had to travel, she deserves some peace.

Praise The Deity that she's doing better…

… Did you ever make that call?

Kristi was going to on Sunday, but I don't think she's entirely comfortable with it, so I haven't been pushing. She may not call. I don't know for sure.

I was just curious.

As long as she's doing better, that's what Really Matters.

Yeah, it definitely is the most important thing. You never know with her. One day she may just call out of the blue. If she does I'll let you know. In the meantime, I'm just grateful the surgery worked!

I'm not saying it didn't and I'm not saying it did, but if I were one of those people who thought that everything was connected, I'd say those 40 days at the wall set the tone for her getting surgery scheduled and it all turning out well.

Holy crap, I might start becoming religious or something!

I am sure that the 40 days, and all the other prayers, really did go a long way toward helping. I may not be a member of a mainstream religion, but I certainly am religious.

Oh, definitely.

I was just being snarky because it was 4 AM.

I'm so glad to hear she's doing well. May all things continue in the direction of wellness and not deviate from that path.

I am so glad to hear that Kristi is doing better! I just asked Pete the other day if he had heard any news from Ferrett about her. You have all been in our thoughts and still are. *hugs*

Trader Joe's! *drool* They really need one of those in Pittsburgh. Scratch that - they really need one of those in NYC! You wanna talk out of the way, my mom and I once drove from Pittsburgh... to DC... basically just to go to one ;) Addictions are killer, man.

Oh, and SO glad to hear Kristi is doing so fabulously! :D
