I don't have a school icon - how weird [Oct. 20th, 2005|12:31 pm]

[Current Mood |crankycranky]

I'm getting highly irritated with my professors this year. Not one of them has cancelled a single class. They are all disgustingly healthy, appallingly underbooked for extra-curricular activies, and frustratingly present. Usually by this time I have had at least a couple classes cancelled. What's wrong with you people?

Tonight would be a particularly advantageous evening to have a cancellation. On Tuesday the prof handed out a lengthy document for us to read, which I mostly finished this morning. I realized that this meant I did not need my textbook, and this particular class will going to require minimal notes, which can undoubtedly be written in the margins and on the blank back pages of the handout, so I won't need my computer. Which meant I could put everything in a folder and only carry a tote bag rather than dragging my wheeled computer bag to school. My computer bag is a source of great comfort, as I do not have to carry the weight of textbooks and computer on my body, but also the source of some irritation. I feel like a bag lady, dragging my earthly possessions along in my wake. It has very noisy wheels. I'm just plain sick of it, frankly, as I am sick of school in general. But today! Today I am free of it, needing only the papers in my folder.

Which is sitting on my desk at home, because I was a bozo and didn't bother putting it into my tote bag. Another one of those "good thing my head is attached" sorts of days.

The other irritating thing about my persistently healthy professors is that I have not been. I had a terrible cold at the beginning of the month, and that was finally gone, but today my throat is a bit sore. Why is it that when you have the least capacity for dealing with illness, you are most likely to come down sick?

Grr, sez I.

Somehow, Dori is the perfect icon for a school icon, I think.

As to the rest of it, have you thought about actually sneezing directly on one of your professors? It might get you out of class in a week or so, and I can't see a single down-side to trying it.

Well, that's not true. You could miss and hit an innocent victim.

Why is it that when you have the least capacity for dealing with illness, you are most likely to come down sick?

I think it's a stress thing. Stress, for some reason, puts our bodies immune system in a funk, leaving us unable to cope with illness, thus making us more stressed, and so on.

Ew! That happened to one of my co-workers during our flight from CLE to Newark. Some guy stood in the aisle, waiting to exit the plane, and sneezed right in her face!

Naw, save the gas. I'll beg a copy off someone.

Or you could scan the whole thing and email it to me. [*bat bat bat*]

I was taking an entry level English class Freshman year, and the teacher was a grad student who was a little too full of herself. I've had really excellent grad student teachers and TAs. She was not one of them.

One of her little rules was that if you missed more than 3 classes, you automaticly failed.

I got bronchitis that year, as was customary for me before my tonsilectomy at the age of 20. I dragged myself to class, hair uncombed, coughing up big wads of crap from the rattling depths of my lungs. I made sure to sit in the front row, directly in front of her, where there'd be no other students interfering with the inevitable spread of my plague germs.

She soon changed her attendance policy.

My law school has a policy wherein if you miss more than 4 classes the prof can either lower your grade an entire point or administratively remove you from the course. Some enforce it, some don't; a couple make it 3 classes instead of 4. Most of them are, however, reasonable about serious issues.

I am feeling worse by the hour. Yeek.

sounds like youo love the tough life....if you are only going to take a small folder to class you have to hassel your life with forgetting it....now had you packed your squeeky computer and all the paraphenelia that goes with it...you wonuldn't have forgotten the small paper.....you might have to decided to drag your stuff, it's the easiest of the 2 tough situations....LOL

i have several appropriate 'schoolish' icons. they're not all uploaded, but i could email one or more of them if you were interested.

i have linus writing while seated as his desk, linus sleeping at his desk, snoopy typing, geek dogg snoopy (see icon above), linus reading a book, charlie brown reading a book, and the most important icon related to school... a graduation cap snoopy.

someday, i could be using the last one to congratulate you! which, of course, is the important part of putting up with school, homework, and crummy professors in the first place!

linus sleeping at his desk would be most appropriate!!!!

I keep telling myself, only 7 and a half more months. It feels like a long, LONG time right now, though....

7 1/2 months? That's less time than a normal pregnancy! You'll be done before you know it! And graduation usually hurts less than labor, to boot!
