Yay! Charles and I have been trying to find a copy of that forever!
If you ever get a chance, check out The Hound Of The Baskervilles, starring Peter Cook as Holmes and Dudley Moore as Watson.
As a longtime fan of Godzilla movies I understand what it is to hopelessly love sophomoric, idiotic, rambling and pointless movies.
Did not even know they'd done one. I'll have to find it!
if I didn't have insomnia, I never would have seen it. I was up very late one night and a local TV station played it (I suspect for lack of anything else). It's completely tasteless, fairly crass, politically incorrect and very, very funny.
It's not on Amazon yet, but the DVD did recently come out, and it's available at Movies Unlimited. I plan to snag it soon as I crawl out of the Time & Money Pit.
One of my ALL-TIME favourite movies! Madeline Kahn! It's WONDERFUL! Miles above Young Frankenstein!
Proving...something...about the French.
(Jerry Lewis! Comic genius!)
The pedantic part of me just goes "Arrrgh, no! He had a smarter brother, but it was an older one who pretty much refused to get up and do anything at all."
It's definitely NOT supposed to be Mycroft, the brother about whom Conan Doyle wrote. This is Sigersund, an unsuccessful younger brother who is a bungling boob and definitely not smarter except in his mind.

Let's All Have Some Sexy Wine!
I love it when he is decribing the guys daughter (who is actually 12) and he really is describing the wonderful (and much missed) Madeline Kahn!
YAY!! We love that movie! We taped it when it was shown on TV and nearly wore the tape out, because we wanted to learn all the words to Madeline Kahn's songs! I think those are it's redeeming quality! I love the mock-opera, especially where the chorus sings "Now we sing, now we dance, we hope we don't get sick!".

Must be a childhood thing... both of those titles made me smile and think "oooh! I haven't seen that in forever!" in a weird, geeky little happy way.
You're right - they're both horrid... and I'm jealous that you get it! :)
Well, I don't have it yet. But I added it to my wishlist.
Oh, that brings back memories! I had the novelization, and it was right around the time I was discovering that there was such a thing as sex, and the novel had a fairly explicit (for a regular-folks paperback and not a porn paperback, that is) sex scene. Such delight! I don't remember if the naughty bits were in the movie, but the one in the book was such an illicit thrill. :)
OH, yeah, there's definitely a (very silly) sex scene in the movie.
My love for Midnight Madness can be explained in much the same way.
...so what are the other movies in the Indefensibly Adored collection?
It's a small collection.
I was just thinking of this movie today! If it's what I remember, there's a bit where Wilder has his hand on Khan's breast, and it's the first time I can remember "creaming my jeans" over something. Or is that Way TMI? [eg]
[snicker] Yes, you are remembering right. And TMI? For porn-writing Star Wars girl? I think not!
I remember seeing that on TV a long time ago...is it the one with "Hop, hop, hop like a kangaroo, hop, hop, it's the dance for me and you"?
And have you seen "Without a Clue"?
It is indeed the kangaroo hop movie.
And no, I have not.
OMG this movie rocks!!! And soo does The Last Remake of Beau Geste!!! Ha ha. Who cares if it can't logically be defended? Anything with Gene Wilder or Marty Feldman pretty much just rocks, for whatever reason LOL!
I totally agree! I actually got this for my birthday, but have been too busy to watch it.
However did you happen to come across this post?!
Yeah, that's funny, June 3rd was my bday and I got it for my bday as well. It's a funny movie. Deff. good. I was just doing some random search and I happened upon it lol. And I have a livejournal anyway, so I was just like oo cool.
Well, enjoy! It's such a silly movie, but how can you not love it?!
