Sheer...LUCK!!! [Mar. 28th, 2006|04:16 pm]

[Current Mood |embarrassedembarrassed]

The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother is coming out on DVD April 4.

Words fail me.

Starring Gene Wilder, Marty Feldman, and Madeline Kahn, this comic romp is a spoof of all those mystery movies starring The Great Detective. Feldman and Wilder wrote this movie as one of their first ventures beyond the umbrella of Mel Brooks.

It is dreadful. Sophomoric, idiotic, rambling and pointless. It has no redeeming qualities as spoof or as art.

I want it.

This is one of those movies that you love despite all logic. For me, it gets a +2 for each of the main actors, so even as a 4, it's a 10 once handicapped. I cannot in any way defend my love of this movie. And yet love it I do.

And if they ever get around to releasing The Last Remake of Beau Geste on DVD, my Indefensibly Adored movie collection will be complete.

If you ever get a chance, check out The Hound Of The Baskervilles, starring Peter Cook as Holmes and Dudley Moore as Watson.

As a longtime fan of Godzilla movies I understand what it is to hopelessly love sophomoric, idiotic, rambling and pointless movies.

if I didn't have insomnia, I never would have seen it. I was up very late one night and a local TV station played it (I suspect for lack of anything else). It's completely tasteless, fairly crass, politically incorrect and very, very funny.

It's not on Amazon yet, but the DVD did recently come out, and it's available at Movies Unlimited. I plan to snag it soon as I crawl out of the Time & Money Pit.

One of my ALL-TIME favourite movies! Madeline Kahn! It's WONDERFUL! Miles above Young Frankenstein!

Proving...something...about the French.

(Jerry Lewis! Comic genius!)

The pedantic part of me just goes "Arrrgh, no! He had a smarter brother, but it was an older one who pretty much refused to get up and do anything at all."

But hey.

It's definitely NOT supposed to be Mycroft, the brother about whom Conan Doyle wrote. This is Sigersund, an unsuccessful younger brother who is a bungling boob and definitely not smarter except in his mind.

Let's All Have Some Sexy Wine!

I love it when he is decribing the guys daughter (who is actually 12) and he really is describing the wonderful (and much missed) Madeline Kahn!

YAY!! We love that movie! We taped it when it was shown on TV and nearly wore the tape out, because we wanted to learn all the words to Madeline Kahn's songs! I think those are it's redeeming quality! I love the mock-opera, especially where the chorus sings "Now we sing, now we dance, we hope we don't get sick!".

Must be a childhood thing... both of those titles made me smile and think "oooh! I haven't seen that in forever!" in a weird, geeky little happy way.

You're right - they're both horrid... and I'm jealous that you get it! :)

Oh, that brings back memories! I had the novelization, and it was right around the time I was discovering that there was such a thing as sex, and the novel had a fairly explicit (for a regular-folks paperback and not a porn paperback, that is) sex scene. Such delight! I don't remember if the naughty bits were in the movie, but the one in the book was such an illicit thrill. :)

OH, yeah, there's definitely a (very silly) sex scene in the movie.

I was just thinking of this movie today! If it's what I remember, there's a bit where Wilder has his hand on Khan's breast, and it's the first time I can remember "creaming my jeans" over something. Or is that Way TMI? [eg]

[snicker] Yes, you are remembering right. And TMI? For porn-writing Star Wars girl? I think not!

I remember seeing that on TV a long time ago...is it the one with "Hop, hop, hop like a kangaroo, hop, hop, it's the dance for me and you"?

And have you seen "Without a Clue"?

And no, I have not.

OMG this movie rocks!!! And soo does The Last Remake of Beau Geste!!! Ha ha. Who cares if it can't logically be defended? Anything with Gene Wilder or Marty Feldman pretty much just rocks, for whatever reason LOL!
