In a daze [May. 16th, 2006|09:39 am]
Zoethe
[Current Mood |bouncywow!]

Paper progress: yesterday, 22 pages; today, 28 pages. Only need to write 4 more pages per day for three days to be done. (Okay, then I need to review and revise, but that's candy once the first draft is finished!)

After work, Ferrett is picking me up and we are driving over to the college bookstore to pick up my regalia.

Because graduation is Saturday.

I graduate. From law school. This Saturday!

I have to keep repeating it to myself. Part of me still can hardly believe it's happening. Graduation. No matter what else happens in my life, even if I can never, ever get passed the Bar Exam, I will have the right to list the letters "J.D." after my name.

Which I won't, because it's so ridiculous. But still.

I get to wear the white sash signifying law review. I get to walk across the stage and hear my name announced, and be handed a blank diploma folder (grades not coming out for 3 more weeks and all). Yeah, I get to be bored by the speakers and spend way too much of a Saturday wearing a piece of cardboard on my head, but I do get to cheer at the end, and smile and shake hands and hug all my fellow grads. We made it through four years of working all day, classes all evening, studying all weekend. There were marriages, and babies born, and no divorces of which I know. It was a successful group.

Thank you to all of you who talked me into going, back when I was having second thoughts about bothering with the ceremony.

I can hardly wait.

Congratulations, Gini. It seems like just yesterday when my wife and I were having dinner with shezan and she mentioned you were going to law school. I gave a hearty "huzzah" to myself upon hearing that news, and give a hearty, electronic "huzzah" to you now for all of your hard work and dedication.

I'm sure you'll be beaming throughout the entire ceremony, boring speakers and all. Hell, if gets too boring, you could do what some of my classmates did during our graduation ceremony: they brought champagne and were having a sip here and a sip there throughout.

T. and I looked for a card for you this weekend, but couldn't find anything even REMOTELY appropriate for a Law School Graduation. I held out for the "How do you get a recent graduate off your porch?" card (A: Pay them for the pizza, but T. held firm. Even when I suggested the "Happy Middle School Graduation" card as an alternative.

So, from me but NOT from T.: Happy Middle School Graduation!!! Now give me the Pizza and get off my porch.

Wear something very light, because doctoral robes are heavy!! (Yes, remember you get to wear doctoral robes -- big bell sleeves and velvet stripes! That totally cooled me out. :))

I'm so happy for you! {{hugs}}

And, you will pass that Bar exam. My cousin is just a freak is all, having passed the Bar in both NJ and PA (and then decided instead to work for Westlaw selling law books and the internet information service thing that they have... Did you know that you need to be a lawyer to sell that kind of stuff?)

You are so brave! I couldn't even get myself to go back to college and try again at a degree, and you went to law school!

Yeah, you have to be a lawyer because you frequently get asked questions that could border on giving legal advice. I actually have a couple friends who work for Westlaw here, both lawyers.

And thanks!

Good luck on the Bar exam. I didn't think it was that bad. You'll do fine!

Very common. Very few people actually fail at this point, and if one grade didn't ... make the grade, one would just quietly go to a single class and finish up and then get diploma.
