Things that make me happy [May. 31st, 2006|09:54 pm]

[Current Mood |mellowmellow]

1. Graduating cum laude - it was a nice ceremony, but pretty much just a gradumacation. Getting a big ol' medal was fun. Some day I'll find the cable for the camera and get pictures uploaded.

2. Perennial gardens - my poor garden is being completely neglected this year, but it still goes on looking lovely.

3. My herb garden - making up a menu for the week and the accompanying shopping list, it's so wonderful to skim past all the fresh herb requirements - "growing right outside the kitchen door...and this one...and this...." And weeding is simply a pleasure - so many wonderful scents!

4. Getting those herbs - a lot of things I like to grow are not hardy here in Cleveland, so today Ferrett and I walked to Gale's Greenhouse to complete the herb garden. It's a little over two miles each way, and it was very hot, but it was a wonderful way to get exercise and enjoy each other's company.

5. The new Lebanese restaurant less than a mile away - has all the rustic charm of a Quizno's. Because it used to be a Quizno's. But the food is yummy! Chicken Shwarma on pita with lots of garlic and tahini and veggies. Mmmmmm.....

6. Getting all my thank you notes out - phew! A relief!

7. Studying for the bar - yeah, it's a lot of work, but it's also exciting. This is it. The last test I will have to take for school.

Just go steady on the Bar and don't try to cram. Set a schedule and stick with it. Are you doing a bar review course? Those things are worth their weight in gold!

Oh, yeah. I'm doing BarBri - I would never even attempt to do this without it. Will probably do the PMBR three-day course, too. I'm sticking with the homework assignments and working through steadily. Working halftime now, and taking all of July off. I am taking this WAY seriously!

*drools* You have a Lebanese restaurant that close by? And here I thought Ohio was not a mecca of foodstuffs. The best out in the SF,CA area is about twenty miles away, and is only pseudo-Lebanese (being mostly generic middle-eastern). Lebanese and Irish, two foodstuffs I search for every time I travel...

They just opened. It's a very sandwich-oriented place, but tasty.

I've been lucky enough to have some home-made Lebanese - our next-door neighbors are Lebanese!

It's different than Aladdin's. More of a sandwich (pita) sort of place. I haven't had their hummous yet. There baba ganoush was good, but after Israel I am utterly spoiled. But the chicken shwarma on pita is a treasure, and the meat pie is outstanding. Of course, you being all vegetarian....

I hope you have some mint in that herb garden...they are essential in a mojito! Great drink for summer pool parties and fourth of july and such...

Yup. They are notorious for taking over, but I just cheerfully rip them almost completely up every year, and so far they have stayed under control.

I don't think I've congratulated you yet. It's because I'm not putting words together very well at the moment, and I'd like to say more than "woo hoo" or "you rock" or "way to go."

It occurs to me that I should go ahead and say those things, just so you know I care. One of these days I'll shoot for articulate. Meanwhile...

You go, Girl!

:)

Congrats again on gradumacating!

If I were you, I would totally be wiped out and would not be able to even conjure the idea of studying for yet another exam. Go you!

I'm Middle Eastern (but not Lebanese) and am lucky enough to have parents who cook our ethnic foods VERY well. My mother's baklava is known in our neighborhood!

Have you ever thought of attempting to try making tabouli or shawarma at home? Your neighbors probably would offer a good recipe and you can always check out any local Middle Eastern grocery stores for ingredients. Learning to make the food at home might be a worthy investment since you seem to enjoy it so much, :)

Yes, but at this point the time factor is the big drawback. Perhaps once I finish the bar and can settle into such things, this will be an option (there is an Indian grocery store not too far from us!).

Way to go on the finishing school thing. My turn to go next year. So what are you going to do once you finally finish with the studying and the tests? Are you taking time off or going right into a job?

You got a big shiny medal for the cum laude awesomeness? *totally jealous* I got magna cum laude and all I got was my parents yelling at me for not telling them so they could put it on my graduation announcements. (Not my fault - I didn't know 'til I saw the program!)

Congratulations and well done! You will no doubt pwn the bar exam into oblivion, and then spend the day dancing and singing about your mighty triumph. *nods firmly*

I'm more seeing "stagger away in one piece and spend the next day sleeping," but I appreciate the vote of confidence!
