My daughter is funny [Jul. 11th, 2006|01:22 pm]
Zoethe
[Current Mood |amusedamused]

Conversation upon my return from the grocery store:

Me: You'll never believe what I just saw: organic Rice Krispies, organic Frosted Mini-Wheats, organic Kellogg's Raisin Bran.

Amy: Really?!

Me: Yeah. I can't decide if it's a sign of progress, or a sign of the apocalypse.

Amy (after a moment's thought): Progress. You see organic Lucky Charms, that will be a sign of the apocalypse.

Oddly, I had about the same reaction upon seeing Walmart Organic Baby Formula.

Ferrett boght some. He poured milk on it. I was dumbfounded that he had the intestinal fortitude to actually put it in his mouth.

organic baby food is common and not terribly much more than the other stuff - but it still tastes awful.

I remember organic babyfood from 5 years ago when I used to stock shelves at ACME - organic babyfood isn't so new.

I used to feed organic babyfood to my 9-year-old, a brand called Earth's Best. It was tasty...why other companies didn't get that babyfood made from, y'know, fruits and vegetables that had been mushed up would be good, is beyond me.

Organic doesn't mean a whole lot when you can still use some pretty potent pesticides and still market your product as organic.

Actually, the first shock was the "granola" bars. I grew up with granola bars made at the hippie health food store.

I miss those good old hippie health food stores. When I lived in Eugene, Oregon, I used to be able to go into The Kiva and buy enough food to last for a week for about $10 - as a poor college student, that was really handy. Now I go into health food places and everything is kinda boutique-y, and expensive.

Well, there are Cheetos Natural. They don't come straight out and say that they are "organic", but mention "organic ingredients" over and over.

Time to go dig up the X-Men, Apocalypse is a comin'...
