Suck! [Sep. 21st, 2006|11:11 am]
Zoethe
[Current Mood |sicksuck!]

On the list of sucky things that go suck in the night:

I'm catching cold again. Another frelling cold. My sinuses are pounding, my throat is sore, my nose is running.

I SO don't need this. Intellectually, I know that I'm all vulnerable from tons of stress that I'm just crawling out from under blah blah blah.

But I do not need to be sick. I need, in fact, not to be sick. There's too much going on right now - work is crazy busy, which is great, but means that I have no luxury time for sick. Not a fraction of a minute of leave. And I couldn't take it now anyway.

At least I biked today. Biking season is ending quickly for us fair-weather, light-only riders. I still have weekends for a few more weeks, but commuting is winding up.

More suck.

Works for me:

Sudafed, Aspirin, hot toddies with PLENTY of rum (disinfects the throat.) Or Bullshots (hot consommé with vodka.) The fuckers have to be caught and ZAPPED early

Re: Works for me:

Now we know why the rum is gone. ;-) It's a cure I'm willing to take - unfortunately, stuck at work for the moment, where rum toddies would be frowned upon.

Are you sure it's not allergies? I know my allergies are real bad right now, and makes me feel about the same way.

I started out thinking allergies, but they never give me a sore throat. And I took enough antihistamine this morning to fell a wildebeest.

Ah! But your body knows you secretly want and need a day or two to just destress, rest and put your feet up. If you won't do it consciously, your body's going to make you do it anyway! So follow your heart's desire - honey and lemon in hot water for the throat and chest, Nurofen for the cold and a nice sleep.

Unsolicited advice

Often when I get the sore throat and head thing going, it's allergies. If I take a Claratin (Loretadine is cheaper generic) it knocks out the draining that you might not even notice down the back of your throat and stops the sore throat. I start the Claratin as soon as I feel my throat getting itchy.

Sudafed is good during the day if you're stuffy, but don't touch the stuff any time after dinnertime because it keeps most people awake.

Don't get Claratin D because it has the Sudafed in it so you can't take it at night and it's way more expensive. Get the regular Claratin (Loretadine) and take Sudafed on the side only during the day. If you're not sure what you're looking for, get a pharmacist to show you the generic form of Claritin (12 hour or 24 hour).

Hope you feel better.

Re: Unsolicited advice

I took Claritine AND benadryl this morning, thinking it was a particularly nasty bout of allergies. The fact that I'm still feeling craptacular indicates to me that there's other fun underway.

Re: Unsolicited advice

Claratin and benadryl? I can't believe you can still make a sentence. Benadryl knocks me unconscious in about a second. Well, maybe ladyoflight2004 is right and your body has decided that "you're done" until you've gotten a rest.

Feel better soon, but if you don't, you might as well wallow in it. Ferrett can be making all the tea this weekend. :)

He'll be gone all day Saturday.

So far, this feel like it's just going to sit in my head and not be a whoile-body sick. I hope.

Re: Unsolicited advice

Jeez, that is SO sad. Feeling icky and no one to hear you whine . . . . or make you tea. If you whine and there's no one around to hear you, are you still whiney? I don't even know what that means. It just popped into my head.

I'm sorry you're suffering through it, and I totally feel for you (seeing as how my 4 year old just finished his first year of preschool and has brought home every plague in existence). By the way, as you're a woman who's children have obviously moved beyond the preschool phase, when do you think I can expect him to stop bringing home the germs so I can go out and catch them myself like other normal stressed adults?

Let me put it this way:

Once he's in college, he'll only bring them home on school breaks.

Sorry that you're feeling well.

Being sick always seems to happen at the worst time (who has time for that crap?)

We work in tight quarters here, and those with school age children bring us all sorts of bad nasties as soon as school starts. It's like working in a peitrie dish.

I do love the pharse things that go suck in the night though, that's a good one!
