More reasons to love my neighborhood [Dec. 12th, 2006|08:03 am]

[Current Mood |chipperchipper]

Yesterday evening Ferrett and I decided to walk the couple miles down to Max's Deli - a Rocky River legend - and grab a little dinner in the middle of the exercise.

Max's was closed, but what was open was a brand new independent bookstore. Liberty Books & News is a Columbus-based business with only three stores, and we are lucky enough to have one of them here in Rocky River. It is in the newly-rebuilt Beachcliff Mall (a building that last summer completely disappeared - razed to the ground - and then reappeared quickly enough for me to suspect that the construction crew came from Hogwarts!) and has already won my heart with a HUGE magazine selection, free coffee, cappuccinos, tea and hot chocolate, free wireless, and an elegant layout housing an impressive collection of books. It's marvelous to have a good, independent bookstore within walking distance - and two miles is a great walking distance to a bookstore because four miles round trip is a decent distance and you feel justified in rewarding yourself with a book!

You can buy a book in a bookstore?
You've got more willpower then me, sister.

Uhh...whatever's lying about. I spend ~400usd a month on them, and on top of that, publishers send me boxes of the things. This means that I've got more then I really know what to do with/room for. I feel a little unethical selling them, so they just pile up (you're weeping for me, I'm sure.) I mail about a box a month out to random people, I could put you guys in the rotation.

Ferrett would love you for it! He's continually looking for reading material.

sounds like a perfect place to hang...

i used to go to the borders in westlake for coffee, muffin, and magazines... but that was when i lived in north olmsted, with a really stingy girlfriend (oh boy... she's an LJ user too. I'll hear about this if she reads it.)

now i am looking for a new literary hangout. maybe we should get a group together to make a weekly outing?

Re: sounds like a perfect place to hang...

At this point they do not have food, but free coffee more than makes up for lack of muffins, in my humble opinion!

And yeah, I think it would be great to get a weekly outing together - let's coordinate it after the holidays, though, because my December is already insane!
