Housework [May. 1st, 2007|02:29 pm]

It's amazing how easy it is to be too busy to get more than the basics done around the house. I walked out into the kitchen today and went all Bette Davis - what a dump. So, it being a quiet sort of morning, I decided to scrub the counters and the floor.

And then, satisfied at last that things looked good, I thought, "Why, we don't need this almost empty bottle of ketchup sitting here with this almost new one. I'll pour the remains into the full bottle.

You can already anticipate what comes next. As I took off the lid of the almost-empty bottle, it sort of exploded out of my hand, flying to the floor and spattering ketchup everywhere.

If I'd done it yesterday, it would hve been a seamless operation. But after cleaning the kitchen? Cosmic comedy gold!!!

In other news, I finally got around to using my new vacuum cleaner - because of course using first requires assembling, and I hadn't had time to assemble.

Man, this thing has more horsepower than my Saturn. It pulls itself forward, and I practically have to jog to keep up with it. Wrestling it back takes some actual muscle; even though our house is small I was hot and sweaty by the time I finished.

But it's cleaner. Still more to do, but work beckoned. And I needed to recover!

A Eureka. It was the Consumer Reports' Best Buy.

I have a newish Eureka too (replacement for my older Eureka which, HEPA filter or no, reeked of dust all the time).

I really hate that power drive it has. Used to be my arms would get a bit of exercise in both directions. Now it's all in one direction, and I have to pull at least twice as hard...

I've discovered that if you let the bag get too full it tends to botch up all that nice filtering.

It does. I normally only let it get 1/4-1/3 full. But even with a new bag and new filter (and a cleaned engine filter) the old one still smelled dusty, so I wasn't sure where else to look for culprits.

And, well, it was on sale...

Is it like a lawnmower, where you can turn the forward traction OFF before pulling it back, or what?

Me, I want a ShopVac with a Roomba brain. :-D

True Sucking Power

The first time I used the Dyson (model name: THE ANIMAL) I double checked that both cats were accounted for as well as the children.

Re: True Sucking Power

Its sad to say this but this house's holy trilogy of electronics are:

1. TiVo
2. The Big Screen
3. The Animal

I LOVE that thing!!!!!!! The sad thing is I didn't realize how dirty my house was the first time I used it. I swear to god it found cat fur that was here from when the house was built in 1900!!

Man, your gift sucks hard! (Sorry, had to, even though it is a horrible joke.)

The ketchup reminds me of what one of my uncles did, though. He was at a party and decided to show the table he was at how to get the ketchup to the top of the bottle. He swung the bottle around in a graceful, forceful arc. Without checking that the cap was on tight. Ketchup everywhere.

So, you know, at least you didn't do it at a party. =)
