Holiday plans [Dec. 11th, 2007|04:10 pm]
Zoethe
[Current Mood |cheerfulcheerful]

So here I am, sitting in Panera, waiting for a client for whom I thought I was late who turns out to be even later. Oh well, time to make an entry.

We are headed out next week for one last Christmas in Connecticut. By next year, the maternal half of the Weasel Parents will probably be relocated in California, which is rather a stretch for holiday travel. So we are going for a bit longer than just the weekend, escaping as early as court scheduling will allow me. The visit encompasses Ferrett family in a nonstop cavalcade of activity. Coordination efforts and itineraries have been flying back and forth. I was cc:ed on a copy of all the Mom-side activities, with which the Dad-side have to be meshed.

I have no involvement in this process whatsoever. Like a four-year-old child, I will climb in and out of the car as I'm told, be driven around town, and go in and out of houses and restaurants as instructed.

Unlike a four-year-old, I promise not to wail like a banshee when I get too tired.

My being a type-A, take charge person, you might think this would bother me. In reality, I'm finding it delightfully refreshing. I am not required to put any energy into determining how we fit Mom, Dad, Grammy, Brother and Sister, and assorted Uncles, Aunts and Cousins spread all over the state into the approximately 56 hours of awake-and-presentable time available. I don't have to figure who we can woo into visiting at the same time to get in the two-fers, and who we can shave down to minimal hours or cut out altogether. None of it is my responsibility, and I don't have to take any blame.

Being four years old and oblivious has its advantages. I am only in charge of making sure I have the right clothes and enough books to keep me entertained. And smiling and visiting with everyone at whatever location I find myself deposited.

I'm not generally into ignorance, but in this case, I'd say it's bliss.

Just been so darned busy that I haven't had the time or energy to write. I miss posting! (Of course, I never get those "OMG I thought you were dead!" responses because everyone knows that Ferrett would tell you if something were wrong, but it's nice to know I've been missed! ;-} )

Oh, no, it won't be. It will be nonstop running about like a headless chicken.

But the court schedule for the three days between Christmas and the new year is minimal, so I might have a couple days of relaxation.

Lol... I meant relaxing for YOU. Usually you're running about like a HERD of headless chickens... you do 5x as much as a normal human being... so only doing 3x as much is a break! ;)

I'm not surprised at all. Being a Type A personality and all that's goes with it gets old. I finally came to the realization that I was a Type A and some of the behaviors that went along with it were really destructive, so I've tried to keep the good parts of being a Type A, and letting go of the bad parts. So, I totally understand where you're coming from. :-)

Yeah, I imagine you would. It does require a vacation from personal impulse that you have to take.

Are you on the side of CT nearer to Ohio or the side nearer to Rhode Island? Cause I'm here and I'd love to meet you while you're here, but seem to remember Ferrett's family living on the other side.

Um, the part nearer to New York?

We have had to say sorry, no to a lot of friends already this trip because there just isn't time. We do need to make a trip for friends up there sometime soon.

That was us this past Thanksgiving. For the last nine Thanksgivings, we have hosted dinner for both of our families. The holiday was spent with us in the kitchen cooking and trying to get the other "cooks" to stop bugging us. Which was then followed by cleaning up the dishes afterwards.

This year, my in-laws did dinner. All we had to do was show up, eat, and relax. It was fantastic.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday.

I'm sure I'll be thinking of them with grumbly longing at least 100,000 times per day starting on Sunday.

Glad to hear you're going to let someone else take the reins for a while. We ALL need to do that occasionally, but Type A's need it the most! And you , my dear, are a supreme example of Type A!! I hope you can truly lean back and relax and enjoy the flow. Have a wonderful time. (I miss your posts, glad to hear from you.)

I need more time for posting. Unfortunately, I also haven't finished how to avoid that pesky sleep thing.
