Not foolin' [Apr. 2nd, 2008|12:30 am]

[Current Mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

April 1, 2008.

11 years my dad's been gone.

At least he chose an appropriate day to go out, and was perhaps the best April Fool's joke ever on the group of novice hikers, 3 miles up a Cascade Mountains trail, who had to deal with him dropping dead.

I'm sure those people all remember that April Fool's Day quite clearly.

You got the last laugh, Dad.

Wow, that would be an amazingly terrible hike to be on.

Also, I love how the tree in your icon looks like a dancing lady.

I'm sure it was.

And, yes, I love my dancing goddess tree.

Sounds like a great way to go.

But anniversaries are still hard; surprisingly so even years later (coming up on 6 years since mine died in a car crash). I don't know what your relationship with your father was, but if you need one, here's a {{{{hug}}}}.

Thanks. I'm pretty okay with it, but can't really find much interest in April Fools pranks. Not that I object in any way to others enjoying them - one of the reasons I didn't post until late - but I just can't get behind them myself anymore.

You just know that someone uttered some version of "Dude, this isn't funny, stop it!"

Considering he dropped face first, then rolled down the side of the hill about 40 feet into a gully, I'm guessing not! ;-)

My Dad's was 40 yrs. ago, and I still miss him. Hope Ferrett gives you lots of extra TLC. Here's a virtual hug, too.

*hugs* if you want them. It's been twelve years since my father died, and there's still part of me that is waiting for his call on my birthday.

For me it's not buying Father's Day cards. And thanks.

Although I am really sorry about the loss of your father, I have to agree, that is a fantastic way to go.

I know another person whose father died on April 1. Although he found it wryly, sadly amusing, it explained a lot.

My father died on Father's Day. Perhaps I am lucky that I was too young to remember him, but his loss affected my entire life because my mother never recovered from his death. She mourned him until she died 22 years later, having accomplished her goal of getting me successfully to adulthood.

That's very sad. She must have loved him very much.
