Whoa, sick. [Nov. 30th, 2008|09:02 am]
Zoethe
[Current Mood |sicksick]

Wow, am I sick. Sore throat, body aches, nausea, the whole nine yards.

The unusual part? Ferrett is also sick, with at least part of what I have. We seldom catch each other's cooties, and never at the same time. But here we are.

The worst part of this particular plague? Swelling in the sinus region, which makes one continually flex the soft palate at the back of the throat to keep, you know, breathing? Except as soon as one falls asleep and that relaxes, there is snoring. The kind of abrupt and noisy snoring that awakens the snorer, particularly when the snorer is aware that s/he is not alone in the bed. At first I wondered if it was just me, but then Ferrett was doing the same thing. He finally went to sleep in the other room so that we didn't have to be continually worried about waking each other. And I did sleep some after that, but not deeply or peacefully. I kept waking up from dreams in which dear friends were giving me advice as to how to deal with my snoring. And I know that Ferrett was going through some of the same because when I was awake I would occasionally hear a snort or groan from him.

So here I am, poorly rested, sick. We're supposed to be going to the birthday of our favorite 5-year-old, but I'm not sure her parents want her exposed to us.

Oh, and did I mention that I have to work today?

It sucks to be me.

Get better

I am sharing with you what my Dr. told me to do (because as you may recall, I was too sick to move on Friday morning and contemplated suicide ever so briefly rather than have my ears and eyes explode) - Mucinex DM 2 tabs every 12 hours; 600 mg Ibuprofen every 6 hours (use this responsibly as it is a prescription dosing of Ibuprofen); saline nasal spray every hour or two as necessary.

I won't say I feel superfantastic, but I do feel well enough to drag out of bed to take care of my 2 year old who also has this now (the sickness demons love me).

Re: Get better

No problem. I had actually come to the same combination of meds out of desperation on Friday. My mother actually called my doctor for me before she came to take me to the ER she was that worried about me. My mom is made of solid awesome.

Re: Get better

I am about 70% now, but seriously, I couldn't believe how much the first dose helped, I did get a little nap in. I'm sorry you have to work today, that's going to suck.

I'm outraged because I had a flu shot, dammit, and so should be somehow exempt from all horrible bugs because I faced the needle!!!

Nothing to do with common sense, that. But still, I'm offended by the universe at the moment.

Thanks.

BTW, are you getting Ferrett's emails? He hasn't heard from you and was wondering if the Bradaki Automated E-Mail Fortress of Randomness had suddenly turned on him! ;-)

Coolness. I know you've been busy, but the occasional email-munching nature of your system made me think I should check!

Hugs back.

*hugs* from a safe, non-communicable distance ;)

Mucinex is some good shit. Glad to hear you have it on hand. Try to stay hydrated too, it can make that harder to deal with.

Oh no! I hope you both feel better soon! (Andrew and I opt for ear plugs when it gets that bad.)

And oh em gee. How much do we love your headdesk icon!! :D

It is indeed a headdesk of awesomeness!

I can't stand earplugs. Fortunately, we have a guest room with a good mattress, so it's not tragic.

You poor thing! I completely sympathize with the whole snoring problem, as only I can. I hope you drain out and feel much better very soonly. Misery ain't fun. Nope, no way.

Thanks. I figure most these things run their course in 4-5 days, so I'm hoping this is the worst of it. I wish I didn't have to go to court in the morning, and with the nastiest, most miserable trustee of the lot and a client who's unlikely to show.

I guess I can hope to give it to him....

They joys of being one's own boss, or at least irreplaceable to the point of nothing short of a valid death certificate can keep you away.

Get well soon, both of you.

Thanks. Improving - now into that "could work but don't wanna because I worked while I was too sick to, dammit!" phase.
