Glad you're feeling better - with what I know about chronic back pain, there really isn't a whole lot more helpless feeling than the attempt to console someone with it.
Because yanno - there's not a whole lot to do that hasn't already been done, some of the time it doesn't do Jack and there always seems to be more of it on the way.
About the veganism? Find a copy of the Moosewood Cookbook and ask her to start building menus. Old enough, you bet. And nobody can live on tofu alone - really really.
As a home remedy for back pain, Advil, Yukon Jack, and a Xanax, followed by sex, are the tops. I will have to keep this in mind.
I can get three of those...guess I'd better try some yoga til Bill comes back.
The sex is the ticket - all that hip rotation. ;-)
Yeah, that's the only reason I'd do it :-P
Oh, that's funny. When I read that entry, nothing I read made me think you were in the bag when you wrote it. :-D
Lately I've been on my feet quite a bit lately. The problem is that I'm currently 80 pounds overweight which is putting a lot of stress on my body, especially my back. So I'm really going to try to lose weight so I'm not carrying all this around.
Yeah, I'm quite impressed with my functional coherency while writing that.
And yeah, the weight thing. Grr. I walked a little today, but was smart and didn't overdo it. After sitting through hours at table for seder, I could actually stand up and walk, so the remedy worked. But shaping up has gotta happen.
I feel so sad that I was not caught up. I missed it completely.
And my husband is lobbying for me to try your back remedy. He is willing to buy me the Yukon Jack. Or something close.
The sex is really essential. Like belly dance, all that hip rotation seriously loosens up the back!

Is the Xanax crucial at all, or can it be replaced with some other Relaxy Thing Potentiated By Alcohol? There are many things in my arsenal, but benzodiazepenes aren't and probably should never be among them.
(note to agencies monitoring everything ever: this is because of adverse reactions, not anything worse.)

Probably any relaxy thing will work fine. If I'd had flexeril available, I would have opted for that.

Ooooh, Flexeril. I remember when that worked.

Skelaxin is almost as good for daytime use and only sedating when combined with potentiators. (Less dangerously so, near as I can make out from the prescription information.)
Flexeril does have the disadvantage that some things need to not relax so much when you're working on The Most Important Component.
You know, if you can figure out how you wrote that post so completently while plotzed, and teach me, I've love to use it during staff meetings! I don't *really* need to be conscious while at the office, and sure would love not to remember most of my customer calls. ;)
It does sound, though, like you are pursueing the best course of treatment for that back problem. It's really good to have a partnet that's willing to sacrifice their time to participate in your health regimen. In fact, have you considered that your treatment may also work as a *preventative*? Some possibilities here...
All the best for continued health! :)
He is very giving that way, and yes. I believe that preventative medicine is the best kind.
The writing while plotzed thing was quite impressive, and if I ever get it perfected I will...patent it and make a fortune! But you are special, so I'd let you in on the secret for a discount. I'm sure we could work out some sort of agreement....
Of course, the vegan entry is now up to 108 comments... ;-)
Yes, and I'm *still* surprised.
It was good to hear about the improvement in your State Of The Back address.
But I have to ask, didn't the sex hurt the back?
No, sex is awesome for lower back issues. All that hip rotation really helps.
