My life is average [Sep. 26th, 2009|10:17 am]

The internet encourages the kind of instincts that once meant "entertainment" consisted of feeding Christians to lions. But occasionally antidotes to this feasting upon misfortune come along.

My Life is Average is an antidote to FML. Instead of horrible misadventures, it celebrates the amusing bits of life. This may be my favorite of all time:

At my new school I sat with a group of kids during lunch that asked me "twilight or Harry Potter?" I answered Harry Potter and they scoweled at me and made rude remarks. The next table over put a bag over my head and screamed "GRYFFINDOR" then pulled me to their table. I just found my new best friends.

The interesting thing is, if you go back to the earliest entries on the site, they really were aiming for a tongue-in-cheek "today nothing really remarkable happened" style to mock FML. But it quickly evolved into its current incarnation of little moments worth treasuring and humorous bits. Sure, there are still entries of complete mundanity, but most are cute.

Life needs more cute.

"Like FML, but for optimists." =P

(a page where people post random acts of kindness, things that make you feel all warm and fuzzy and stuff)

Honestly, I still love the points of mundanity. I'm not the largest Harry Potter fan, but the sheer goofiness makes me smile.

I can't help but read the A in MLIA as "awesome" every time I come to the end of a cute story. Some of them really are pretty awesome. :)

I found this yesterday - http://itmademyday.com/

It's kinda like people who saw FML stories happen to someone else, and it made their day because it wasn't them. Somehow it always cracks me up.

Oh good, I don't have to plug GMH. I always end up crying happy tears whenever I go there (I cry REALLY easily, that's not a commentary on the site).

Most days, nothing happens here. I chronicle my life because if I don't, owing to my medical issues, in a month or so those memories will be gone. I had no idea people enjoyed the ordinariness of my days until they started telling me so when I couldn't write in it any more.

Ordinary is good; I wish all my days were composed of vacuuming, chasing pets, and crocheting.

We all have the impulse to talk about our daily lives, and I do enjoy going back and reading about past events.

And I'm sorry you don't get average days. That's a bummer.
