Sleepy Gini is sleepless again [May. 28th, 2010|04:24 am]
Zoethe
Insomnia sucks. Four hours of lying in bed, drifting toward sleep then jerking awake. One sleepless night won't kill me, but of course it's the night before a very busy day that culminates in a special overnight with our um-child. I'm really glad she goes to bed at an early hour, because I'm going to be tipping over at her bedtime.

*sigh*

Suppose I will try sleeping one more time. I've had fun and can definitely identify this as Not It.

There's nothing like "I have to get some sleep!" to keep you awake! I hope you can catch what I call "the power nap". The youngest goes out for a playdate at 2:25 and the older one comes on a 3 o'clock bus? Quick! Set the timer for 25 minutes and lay down on the couch!! It helps!!

It was awful. I did rest, at least. But no sleeping for me.

And I've even cut way back on caffeine....

I find Tylenol PM works pretty well, especially if I'm emotionally stressed and/or physically tired from extra cleaning, gardening, etc. And it doesn't leave you groggy, which is important.

If I don't sleep tonight, I will definitely be picking some up.

Insomnia sucks

Oddly enough, a physician friend of mine used a mild anti-anxiety/anti-depressant drug to combat mine years ago.

If it's where your brain just will.not.turn.off, it's a unique solution that apparently works fairly well and isn't really habit forming.

I took it at bedtime. That way if I woke up I was all 'who gives a flying' and went back to sleep.

Re: Insomnia sucks

That might do the trick. We have some around here, too....

My insomnia hit last night, too. Mine's the type where I get to sleep just fine, then wake up at some gawd-awful hour and can't get back to sleep.

So anyway, I can commiserate, for whatever that's worth.

I get that kind at times. It's no fun, either.

Oh no! Your Eeyore icon is making me feel so sad for pouty Gini. I was able to get some sleep last night after the SWAT team left the apartment building across the street! But only because of my xanax prescription.

I never did get to sleep. About to go off and see if, after 41 hours, I can make a better go of it tonight.

I am a really bad friend, because I have no idea why you have an um-child... Please explain.

She's the daughter of our dearest friends, but we feel like our relationship with her is its own entity, so just calling her our friends' daughter feels too distant. She calls us uncle and aunt, but we are not blood relatives, so niece is inaccurate. She would be our god-child, except Jewish people do not have god-children. So Ferrett took to calling her our um-child, because we would stammer over how to describe her: "She's our, um...."

He's like that, my weasel. Very clever in thinking things up.
