That link doesn't like me! It calls me an "unknown journal." :/
We all have dream houses, don't we? Some old houses scare me, though - too much personality, like something might be lurking in the corners. The recently built ones, I dislike if they're obviously cheap fakes of something fancy. Like a plastic castle.
It's not just you; it won't go anywhere for me, either.
is the one 'calling to me right now.
But yeah I can't resist either - I'd have been an architect if my drawing skills had been better. I've been sketching floor plans, rearranging furniture, imagining how a house could work, since I was 10 or 12.
We're still keeping an eye out for 'the perfect place' - we found it once, and then found out it was structurally unsound and falling down, so we keep watching for it.
We plan to drive down to Fortune to see the Eldon house sometime before the end of the month. See if it'll hold my Allan Quatermain Library ®

Those pictures are on the porn site. I want those stairs!!
oooh (drool) I have never owned and will never be able to afford to own a house but I LOVE to look...and drool. Addicted to This Old House since it began on PBS...
I used to watch that religiously. I loved the renovations that repuposed buildings into housing.
Yeah, there are definitely a few pictures of places I could not enter without having an anxiety attack.
But isn't that always the way with porn?
I like looking at shelves designed for aesthetics, but my primary concern when I think about what I want to own is capacity. I have always defined "luxurious living" as "enough shelf space." Sometimes I dream of having compact shelving, the kind of movable units you find in academic library basements and the like. (I have kind of a love/fear relationship with those, though. They always make me start plotting a murder mystery story in my head, in which someone is crushed between two ranks.)
So to make you happy, I should tell you that I'm painting my library this weekend? :) Once the painting's done and I get my new wood floors put in, I'll share pics!
Oooo, library pics!!! Yes, yes yes!!!
What, no pictures of MY bookshelves? :)
I don't have any pictures of your bookshelves! You should submit some.
I love old houses. Yes, modern houses (1950s-forward) are too... cookie-cutter, I guess.
Thank you for the porn link!
70s houses, with their cathedral ceilings and big windows, hold a place in my heart just because of the openness. The drawback with old houses, as far as actually living in them, is that the kitchen is often removed from the rest of the living space. But they have so much more character.
Ooh, pretties! We were able to use one bedroom as the "library" in our new house, and cover the walls with shelves. I'll post pics when we're finally done. (Of course, several shelves have been commandeered by Star Wars action figures ...)
Woo, Star Wars!!
We need more bookcases. Again.
I love bookshelves. I could use more myself. It always kills me when I watch a design show and the designer says there are too many books cluttering the bookshelves.
What?! I would immediately fire such a designer!
oh wow....much fun to look at those bookcases!
I am exactly like this.:)
