Why are there no aspirin in the jungle? [Sep. 20th, 2010|12:36 pm]

Through with surgery. As it turns out, the mole was directly over the temporal artery and the doc had some concern about getting it all without a nick that could cause unwelcome spurtitude. It didn't happen, though, and I am home. Feeling remarkably shaky and wobbly, though. And you know how your lip feels weird and misshapen after Novocaine? That's how my left eye and eyebrow feel right now. I wonder if this is how Botox feels because if it is, I can't imagine doing it to myself!

The natural thing to want to do when your face feels numb like this is experiment - can I raise my eyebrow? (No.) Squint? (Probably.) The problem with that natural reaction is that my post-care instructions begin with an imperative not to make faces. I need to remain flat affect as much as possible to minimize scarring. Also, I cannot engage in strenuous activity or bend over for a couple of days.

This is very bad. And no, not for the reasons you dirty-minded folks might think! No, we have to essentially move out of our upstairs in the next couple of days, because we are having the interior of the house painted. Books, DVDs, paintings, knick knacks, all need to be hauled out of the upstairs rooms and stowed in the basement for a while.

By Wednesday.

Alas, no. The only one available is sick with a terrible cold and sneezing is not good for avoiding faces.

For a while, not long ago, i h ad something weird going on with my head and the whole left side was numb. Most often it was the forehead, lips, and throat, but sometimes it was all of it. it was really weird. I was tapping on it all the time.

As the lidocaine is dispersing, more and more of my face is getting numb. Itchy and weird.

Youch, that sounds like a ton of stress, sorry to hear it's being heaped on top of surgery!

We managed to get onto the painter's schedule, and I never imagined this was going to be as tough as it has been. But the surgeon didn't like the look of it and took a bigger, deeper chunk than I thought he would.

Best Wishes for a speedy recovery.

And... it's apparently a day late, but I retroactively wish you a Happy Anniversary and hope that your coming years are filled with joy.

Glad to hear the surgery went well, and I hope you recover quickly and as painlessly as possible.

Numbness, you have my sympathy on, too. I'm holding out faint hope to get the rest of the feeling in my lip back (I've given up on the chin as a lost cause). But 1.5 years on, the odds are not good.

Side effect of orthognathic surgery, not unexpected.

Ugh. A bummer, nevertheless.

It is, and thanks, but it was a risk that I factored in at the beginning. And even though it did come to pass, I think the positives outweigh the negatives on the whole.
