BHG got nothin' on me [Jul. 16th, 2011|09:59 am]
Zoethe
Ferrett put up pictures of the finished kitchen, but I think that to really get the difference, we need some Before and After.

The stove and fridge before:

And after:

The sink and dishwasher side before:

And after:

The wall side before:

After (or, "what wall?"):

And finally, a picture of our new sink, from an angle we couldn't get a before on:

There are still some things to do, moving back into the kitchen being the first and most obvious. But I am in search of a stainless steel double-compartment trash can that has decent capacity and isn't infrared. (Seriously? You want me to plug in my trash can? Seriously???) And the dishwasher is kind of...white. Someone said that it's possible to get a stainless front for it, so I may look into that.

If I was to give anyone advice about kitchen remodeling, it would be "don't let the 'professionals' talk you into matching everything into monotone dullness." The contractor and subcontractors tried to "help" with friendly suggestions couched in an "are you sure you don't want to reconsider your counters/paint/floor" in relation to the other choices. A couple times I wavered a bit, but I'm glad I believed in my vision and stuck to my guns. And in the end, I got the vibrant kitchen that I wanted. So be brave!!!

You might check here: http://www.simplehuman.com/products/trash-cans/recycling-cans/

We have the butterfly recycler and like it a lot.

Thanks! I am loving them, though still a bit intimidated at the idea of making a mess in my new kitchen!

They are Sherwin Williams paints, but alas, the purple is a custom mix. The yellow is called something like "intense yellow" or "sincere yellow" or "not-fucking-around yellow" but I can't remember just now. Will try to find it and let you know!

Stainless appliances will eventually be the "harvest gold" and "avocado," but I do love them.

All I can say is, be brave! The thing about paint is that it's relatively easy to change out if you need to.

Very nice. I've been watching this with interest, some day, hopefully a log time from now, I'll probably have to deal with my grandmother's house. (Realistically though, she's 90) It was last remodeled in 1972, and it has wall to wall carpet. Whether I move in, or sell it, the kitchen will have to be re-done, my folks will invariably suggest we go through a moderately competent friend of a friend, so I'll need to be INFORMED.

Carpeting kitchens was one of those short-lived but truly awful fads.

I can't say this wasn't expensive, but I was fortunately enough to have industry connections and get stuff at discount. I know people who have saved money by refronting old cabinets, if they weren't unhappy with the layout of the kitchen--either new doors, or sanding and painting the old doors and fronts--and it's worked out okay.

While I, too, love your new kitchen, I also have to comment to say that that clock is also made of win and awesome too.

I love it!! Love the vibrant colors, and all that light! And the flooring is just beautiful in there.

And here is a COMPLETELY UNASKED-FOR suggestion: outlets and outlet covers in the backsplash are a pretty strong contrast to that beautiful countertop color: thoughts of switching them to dark grey or black?

Congratulations on creating such a fabulous new space in your house!!!!!!

They don't look as harsh in real life, but there is some consideration underway.

Love the flooring!! Appliances are way cool too, as is The Clock!

What are the white things on the black riser? Lights? White tile? Outlets? Enquiring minds, not able to get the picture big enough to actually see what's going on there ... ??

The colors are a bit bright for my taste. Then again, if that's how *your* taste runs, I can really see how the beige with cornflower blue little flowers wallpaper must have made you just crazy ... so CONGRATS!! on getting what you really love.

Outlets. Not as white as that IRL, but switch to black may happen. And thanks!
