|There and Back Again

Okay, it wasn't the journey to Mount Doom, or even the one to the Lonely Mountain, and the only dragonlike danger I faced was the stony disapproval of my former father-in-law, but we have conquered graduation and arrived home safe with Erin in tow. She got her final grades and passed all her classes, she passed the MCAS test, and she walked across that stage and received her diploma. And actually got in the car and came back with us for the summer.
I was so afraid that at the last minute she would break my heart: a job opportunity, a new boyfriend, something that would prevent her from coming to Cleveland for the summer. I was braced, right up to the last minute, to be jilted - but it didn't happen. Instead she is here, and in her first act as the newest resident of the household dragged me out for a walk/jog around the neighborhood. Despite being tired from all that driving (I do not suffer the passenger seat well and so drove the whole way both directions - on the way back enduring both Erin's admonitions that I should speed up and Ferrett's glee at me getting scolded by a backseat driver), I went and am glad I did. She's now out with Ferrett, forcing him to engage in the same. She is determined that we shall have a healthy summer, and a healthy summer shall be had. I can definitely use it.
As far as a weekend of rest, it sucked. And I am not looking forward to getting up for work tomorrow. But I am delighted to have her here, before she goes off to Vermont for college.
Life is good.
