Picking on Erin [Aug. 13th, 2004|11:53 am]

[Current Mood |shockedshocked]

Ferrett has already written an entry today about Erin's lawnmower fiasco, so now I feel like I'm ganging up.

But what the heck.

Today is company picnic day, and I decided to wear my white crop pants. They needed pressing, so I walked over to the ironing board.

And discovered a nice, hot iron, waiting for me to use.

"Erin," I said, waking her from blissful teen slumber. "When did you last iron?"

"I dunno. A few days ago."

In other words, we have been living for at least a week with an iron set on high just standing there in the basement. Nevermind that the strange humming noise I had been hearing was clearly my electric meter working up to escape velocity. It's a wonder that she didn't burn down the house.

I'm feeling very fortunate today, and counting my blessings. And now I'm leaving for the company picnic.

Yikes! My parents always made me unplug everything (curling iron, hot rollers, hair dryer, iron, etc) when I was done with it. If I didn't, and I got caught, regardless of being 'off', said item was taken away for x amount of time. That was their way of making sure the house didn't burn down. :P

It seems that maybe she should pay the extra electricity? Like figure out the highest bill you had before the fiasco, because that burns a lot.

My husband had a college roommate who insisted on keeping the heat high enough to wear shorts inside in winter, and he offered to pay the extra, since the others were willing to wear sweaters inside. It seems fair.
