Kristi update [Mar. 10th, 2005|11:00 pm]
[Current Mood |anxiousanxious]

I left work at about 4pm and headed back to the hospital. Kris was in surgery until sometime after 7. We thought we would see her in an hour, then two, then more. We finally saw her at about 10:30.

She is in a lot of pain. Because of the high level of pain meds that she has had to be on, they are having trouble controlling her pain - she's just plain resistant. It was pretty hard to see her all hooked up to the machines and struggling like that. They gave her something for nausea that was knocking her out, though, and we left her to sleep. They will move her to a room tonight, and I will take her some things tomorrow, but they said not to leave any personal belongings for the time being.

I am worn out, but jittery. Must try and sleep soon....

They did it. You did it. Now it's all up to the recovery process.

And I hope it's an easy one, and speedy one.

I'm so glad it went well.

Rest up and take care of yourself. You need to be strong and serene, or Kristi will feel your anxiety and worry more about herself. Don't worry too much about her pain level, they'll work at getting her something strong enough to manage it. She really needs that sleep. If she's asleep when you're with her tomorrow, don't worry, just be with her, and she'll feel you there. You're a great sister.

*soothes* A note on pain management - it's very hard to see someone in pain, and I think it's doubly hard when you see someone being managed with the high end stuff because sometimes you can't tell if they are in pain...or just too away from their heads. In most cases, in my experience, people on that much medication don't remember - even though you could swear up and down they were there in the room with you. They just don't remember.

Oh, but you do. Hang in there. It's going to get better from here. Go put your head down and be sure in that knowledge. Everything that can be done, has been done and will continue to be done.

Everything is okay - and everything will be okay.

Glad she's come through OK so far. I guess this is the point where prayer shifts from focus on living through the surgery for it to work for her with no negative side effects.

And for you to get some rest.
