Weird thoughts of the day [Apr. 19th, 2005|03:40 pm]
[Current Mood |exanimateexanimate]

You know, whatever you have to say about the new pope, it's gotta be weird to be regarded as "they guy they chose to die quickly." It's like, "Love ya dude! Leaving soon?"

Knowing Ratzie, he'll stick around a decade or more, just to irk people.

He may be the world's first centenarian Pope!

*chuckle* Great minds think alike. I read the article and immediately thought it strange that his advanced age was a benefit not because of implied wisdom, but because it meant he wouldn't be around as long as the younger contenders. A "transitional" pope??? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

You know those Germans. Healthy and quietly stubborn.

i was trying to think of where i'd heard "Ratzie" before -- and then i remembered:

(although i'm sure it's not uncommon among Unflattering Nicknames,) "Ratsy" was the name of one of Gene Hackman's minions in The Quick and the Dead, a quite-silly western by Sam Raimi, also starring Sharon Stone and Russell Crowe. Ratsy did something that pissed off the sherriff (Hackman, one of those Bad Sherriffs who own the whole place), and was given thirty seconds to get the hell out of town, at least ten of which he wasted begging; when he finally started running, you realized it wouldn't have mattered if he'd had a whole minute, because there was only one road out of town, and it was dead straight, and the sherriff was a pretty good shot. Ratsy took one in the back twenty seconds later.

Re: Cliffie!

I've been reading in some other places that he actually is quite the beer loving Bavarian. Not in a disrespectful manner, but rather in a down to earth sort of way.

I guess the world will see.

He looks pretty happy, just not a face you expect to see a smile on.

I say "ratz" to the whole election. this is a divider, not a uniter. i fear he will spread distrust and hate.

That's what I'm thinking. I bet he lasts a lot longer than anyone anticipates. He certainly looks pretty healthy.
