1) Total number of books owned?

Ever? Literally thousands.

Currently? Books that I would identify as "mine" about 350. Books in the household, back to over a two thousand.

2) The last book I bought?

The Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Doug Adams. I'm getting caught up on my geekitude

3) The last book I read?

The Battle for God, by Karen Armstrong. I'm about finished with that - fascinating read.

4) 5 books that mean a lot to me?

Wow, that's a tough task, limiting it to five. But staying away from the obvious Lord of the Rings and Mists of Avalon, and the classics like Jane Austen, here are five that have had a lot of impact on me:

Dancing at the Rascal Fair, Ivan Doig
A Story Like the Wind, Laurens Van der Post
Desert Solitaire, Edward Abbey
The Return of Merlin, Deepak Chopra
Woodswoman, Anne LaBastille

5) Tag 5 people and have them fill this out on their ljs:

Why 'Desert Solitaire'? I've read it 5 times due to college classes, but I find Abbey a totally childish male writer who couldn't depict a female character if she sat on his lap and told him what to write.

Many people compare him to Thoreau, but even with professors guiding me through this idea I thought it was a wasted effort. Abbey acted out a lot (like killing that rabbit for no reason).

I'm not trying to be arguementative; I'd just like to know why you consider his novel so pivitol in your life.

It was my first introduction to the desert southwest, and it pointed out to me how much of it was already gone before I would ever see it. His descriptions of the slickrock country made me fall in love with it before I ever got there. I still love it.

I think it's some cosmic thing, or maybe I write too much in my LJ. You're also the 2nd redhead to tag me, so that definitely indicates some sort of cosmic thing going on.
