Accomplished should feel more...accomplished [Oct. 2nd, 2005|05:58 pm]
[Current Mood |sickwhacked out on decongestants]

I did two week's worth of homework this weekend.

I wish that were an impressive accomplishment showing initiative above and beyond the call of duty. I wish I could follow it with something like, "and at this current rate, I shall have finished all my assignments for the year by the end of October." But no. I plowed through two weeks worth of homework because next weekend is shot and if I hadn't done it today I would have had to find a place for it elsewhere.

Friday afternoon we fly to Connecticut so that we will be in attendance for the wedding on Saturday of Ferrett's step-brother and already-sister-in-law-in-our-hearts, suzieboz. Sunday we fly back in the early afternoon, effectively scotching any plans to study before or after the flight. Monday is a holiday, yes, but I will spend it driving to Columbus at the wee hours in order to be in attendance at a Family Law CLE, an all-day event. Then back to work on Tuesday.

The one good thing about going to Columbus is that I may be able to track down this restaurant that we went to last year that had the most amazing Thai chicken curry I have ever tasted. I will get 4 to-go orders of it and haul the treat back up here. And eat one on the way. Assuming they are still open. I remembered the restaurant's name being Poetry, but there is no such listing in Columbus. I know where it was, though, so maybe I can find it. It will be a terrible let-down if they are closed.

This was a good weekend for two weeks worth of homework in that I am sick. Being sick means that I can be excused from feelings of guilt about not getting outside and getting exercise. Right now my sinuses are feeling quite explode-y, and the fact that I've eaten nothing since a peanut butter sandwich at 11 is having an effect. It's not that I haven't tried; I keep wandering into the kitchen and telling my body to choose something, but nothing sounds appealing. The joys of illness.

So, I will not fall hopelessly behind from being gone for a weekend, but I will not be rested up, either. Weddings are many things, but restful is not one of them. But I have a couple quiet weekends after that.

Time to go be self-indulgent in the hours before bed and once-more-into-the-breach.

tell it, sister. i'm loopy on the cold medicine as well, and while i've drunk my weight in tea and OJ (okay, not my weight, but still, lots and lots) i've barely eaten anything, and i expect that will come back to bite me on the ass if and when i feel better.

I'll go all Jewish mother on you: you've got to eat!!!

I'm making my own favorite, completely vle concoction, hamburger gravy over fluffy rice. There is no reason to like it, yet it is my comfort food of choice. I am strange.

It's actually called Haiku. :) You were remembering the category it fell under instead of the specific, apparently. :)

Don't suppose you feel like just keeping on going for a few hours after you get through Columbus, and coming to see me? :)

I forget if you like filk or not, but OVFF is coming up on the 21-23...probably I can't afford it, but I really want to go! The website is www.ovff.org if you want to check it out. If you guys were going I'd make an extra effort to be there.

Haiku! Thank you! That will make life much easier!

Alas, I am not a filker and wouldn't have time for it anyway. I'd love to see you, but it'll have to be for another event.

That's an impressive amount of homework. It would leave me brain dead.
I hope you feel better!

Good on you, being pro-active about the homework!

Sinuses can be a B----. Some people I know swear by heat, but I apply ice packs and it gets everything moving. Also, if you elevate your head at night (I sometimes conk on the couch, but extra pillows work, too) you won't "fill up" as much. There's also humidifiers, or more simply using a hot cup of tea and placing a dishtowel over your head and the cup. The steam helps moisturize the 'gunk' that's in the sinuses so it can drain. If these don't help much and you have headaches, you may be infected and need meds to kill the germ count.

rice and gravy?? I only want ice cream when I'm sick. And the cold ice cream helps -like an 'inside' ice pack!!

Feel better soon!

I don't dare fall behind. I am no good at playing catch-up.

Will try some of your remedies.

For sinuses (given that I'm allergic to the natural world, and get what I term sinus migraines on a regular basis, I'm attempting to become an expert on treatments. ;) ) I really like the Neti Pot. It's a bit weird to use (you tilt out head, pour warm salt water in one nostril and it comes out the other), but it can really help to get things moving. Can be a bit gross to see what comes out- but out, in this case, is sooo much better than in. ;)

Oh, and this Saturday is a great day to get married- I hope... That's when I'm getting married. :)
