Pink eye [Nov. 24th, 2005|11:54 am]
[Current Mood |sickpink-eye!]

Pink eye. How the hell did I get pink eye?

I was complaining at work yesterday that my allergies were bad and didn't seem to be responding well to antihistamines. Then on the flight here I noticed that I was having particular issues with my left eye. By the time we finished with the "limo" ride from LaGuardia (read "bus"), I was pretty sure that I had a problem.

Waking up twice last night with my left eye glued shut from the gunk convinced me.

Thank goodness for urgent care centers. The one near here was open until noon, and the CVS a block from it is a 24-hour one, so I was able to get seen and get meds. But my insurance company would think I was crazy, if they were to review my record. The only place I've been seen by a doctor in the last two years, other than for a routine physical - has been here in Connecticut. It looks like I go out of town to get sick.

I still have no idea where I picked up pink eye. I just hope I didn't infect the entire flight. I feel kind of bad.

Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving. Here, let me hand you a roll.

How the hell did I get pink eye?

Most likely, someone with it touched their eye, then touched a door handle or armrest or any of 40,000 other things, and then you touched it and rubbed your eye. It's insidiously contagious, but not airborne, so I doubt you affected the entire flight.

And, uh, thanks, I'll just...not have roll...carbs...yeah, that's it, low carb diet. Mash potatoes? Oh, those are...different carbs.

Mmmm, indeed. Great stuff. I've convinced cauliflower-haters that they can eat it that way. Also try myzithra cheese sometime if you can get it. Trust me.

Ty for the roll! It's appreciated ;)

As for the pinkeye, I've had it off and on since July. A bitch, to be sure. I hope you can kick it to the curb soon.

I've had allergenic conjunctivitis or something like that. I think there are 3 kinds? Bacterial, viral, and allergenic? Something like that. And the steroids that can help the allergy one mess with the eye in other ways making it prone to infection. I think. Thankfully it's been years since I had chronic conjunctivitis.

I would probably kill myself. I hate having my eyes a mess. It's a good thing I have decent vision - there woul be no contacts for me.

I've had it occasionally, but usually find it goes away fast once I get the meds going. Hope you'll find it the same. Additionally, wash your hands OFTEN, don't touch your eyes if you can help it, and try using the hand cleaners that don't require water when you are in the office, car, away from home, etc., and can't wash.

Oh yes, I know what you mean! I work with little kids and every time they sneeze and wipe their nose with their sleeve, I have to wash my hands a zillion times!! Makes me positively OC!!
