Today began with a knock on the door at 5:45am. This was theferrett's mother, and she wasn't waking us to see what Santa had brought. No, it was to see them off, as they departed for the airport, and so that we could get ourselves dressed and packed and ready to head to a different airport.
Ho ho ho.
Our original travel plans included a full Christmas day in Connecticut, but continental airlines - in its infinite wisdom - saw fit to cancel our 6pm flight home and rebook us on the 9:55am flight. Meaning that Christmas day itself is a series of shuffle-and-wait: shuffle off to the airport and wait to board; shuffle onto the plane and wait to land; shuffle off the plane and wait for luggage....
Shuffle home and wait for the cold Ferrett's stepdad just came down with to hit.
The time out here, however, has been tremendous fun. We went out to dinner with Ferrett's mom and stepdad on Friday evening, just the four of us, and had a very nice visit, very relaxing. Saturday was spent with his dad, doing a little leisurely last-minute Christmas shopping before the mall got truly insane, and then going for a very pleasant drive and out to dinner with him and his friend Susan to one of the best Thai restaurants around. Yesterday started with Ferrett and me taking a walk to Best Buy to watch the frantic antics of people who hadn't finished their Christmas shopping, followed by Sunday Brunch at the best Indian restaurant we've enjoyed since returning from England, then both of us getting through the bulk of the work we'd brought with us, another walk with his mom and stepdad, and then gift exchanges between the four of us before we went up to the home of Ferrett's stepbrother and sister-in-law, suzieboz where we had a great Christmas dinner and spent time playing with the kids. It was about 11:30 when we collapsed in bed.
Now I need to go pack. Merry Christmas to everyone. Enjoy your day.
