The weather outside, in point of fact, *is* frightful [Apr. 8th, 2007|02:15 am]

There is a foot of snow in my yard.

It is April.

There is not supposed to be a foot of snow

in my yard

in April.

When the forecast called for "lake effect snow," I waved it away. That only happens on the east side of town. Sure, we'd had five inches or so, but honestly, it was tapering off.

Then I snugged down to comfort movie viewing and computer surfing, staying up extra late because, well, I just felt like it. On my way to bed, I glanced out the window.

The snow is up to the belly of the Christmas moose.*

I have to drive to the airport in the morning to pick up Ferrett.

And it's still snowing.

Holy crap.

*The Christmas moose is still in the yard not because we are insane (we are, but that isn't the reason). It is to provide a homing beacon to our friends during the winter months when they struggle in the darkness to find our humble and heavily cloned abode. "The house next to the only house with a large pine tree" works well enough in the summer, when people can see said tree, but in winter the light of a wire moose, ponderously glancing right and left, serves as a much more readily identifiable marker.

It's also a handy snow depth gauge.

The world's broken. This is unnatural.

Do not equate "uncommon" with "unnatural" for it is an error to do so. Farmers of old would attest to the horror of a late spring freeze that destroyed a year's worth of income. Snow, in fact, would have been more welcome in that it is insulating.
