Meme-tasticness [Apr. 29th, 2009|09:42 am]
I have a long day of dull computer stuffs ahead of me, so I'll join in on the fun going around LJ.

A meme, stolen from catvalente, theferrett, aiela, bec76, and just about everyone else out there:

One question.

One chance.

One honest answer.

That's all you get.

You get to ask me one question.

Any question, anything, no matter how crazy, dirty, or wrong it is.

I'm not going to screen questions or answers, but anonymous questions are allowed. Screening is a pain in the butt and, really, reading the questions and answers has been fascinating. If it's something you don't want in public, post the comment and the delete it so that I'll get it in my email but it won't be visible, or just email me.

My favorite judge has to be Learned Hand - the man was brilliant and, though some of his views are now dated, stood for freedom and justice. Even though he never became a Supreme Court Justice, he is probably the most quoted member of the judiciary ever.

Even though my libertarian friends will have conniptions, my favorite Justice is William O. Douglas. He was the ultimate judicial activist when it came to personal liberties and environmental protection, both causes dear to my heart. Yes, he helped the Warren court ride roughshod over state's rights in order to end segregation, advance religious freedom, and protect our natural resources. Yes, he was a reinterpreter extraordinaire when it came to the Constitution. Yes, he was part of a lot of "legislating from the bench." I don't care. I still love him.

I love me some William O. Douglas too. On this point, libertarians can suck it. :)

My dad named our sailboat the William O Douglas. Yay! (when that one died, its successor was The First Amendment)
