Keeping the future of spec fiction alive [Jun. 16th, 2010|09:46 am]
I have not attended the Clarion workshop. I have just watched from the outside as it transformed Ferrett from a guy scribbling down his really great concepts into an actual writer. Those six weeks were hard, gut-wrenching work for him and all his Clarion-mates. The end result, though, is that many of those people are getting published thanks to the tools they learned.

Now you have a chance to help keep the Clarion experience going, and maybe even get a small taste of it yourself. Ferrett is participating in the Clarion Write-a-Thon, a six week writing marathon that parallels this year's Clarion workshop. For a donation of $10 or more, you get to be included in a special LJ community where Ferrett will put up his daily writings, discuss the writing process, and critique some stories. It's a fascinating process - even though I'm around him daily, I will be donating to the cause (no, being his wife doesn't get me a freebie).

So if you enjoy science fiction and fantasy writing, if you enjoy discovering new writers, and especially if you dream of one day attending the workshops, please consider donating toward their scholarship funds.

Heh, being the wife means that not only do you donate, but you give him head rubbin's and healthy cookies of choice while he's in his eleventy-ith hour.

And still give him ten bucks. :D

For a minute there I thought you meant "spec" as in "speculative work", not "speculative fiction".
