I find that insane - you can stay at a cheap-ass hotel for $50 a night with free wifi, but Disney charges you out the ass for internet. I caved last time I was there, and probably will again. But I just don't understand why they must do that!
Because they can. Which us shitty but true.
In the highly unlikely event that we see each other in the Tuesday crowds at Magic Kingdom, I shall wave, and curse the lack of WiFi at Magic Kingdom that would allow us to twitter a meet-up :)
(Well, that, and the fact that I don't have a smart phone and never take a netbook to the parks, but, that's a quibble :) )
I can be texted, but I don't know what park I will be in Tuesday. With a party of 17 family members, I am adopting a "go with the flow" attitude!
Heh, with 17 family members, I can't blame you. On the other hand, that way you can TAKE OVER THE ENTIRE DISNEY BUS with your singing. Er. Not that I've ever, um, done that on a Disney bus with a large group or anything.
I'm only breaking my "don't go to theme parks in the summer" rule for a family thing and to see the Electric Light parade - I'll be there with my parents and two of their friends, and I don't know how long we'll be staying at the park or where we'll be watching the parade from or anything like that, although my mother insists on doing Buzz Lightyear at some point, so I assume we'll do that, and I'm hoping we'll all be sticking around for the fireworks, since I get to hear those but not actually see them every night, but I expect that will depend on crowds. The rest of the week I plan to go back to my rule of avoiding theme parks in the summer :)
Hope you have fun! The good thing - that many people can keep you entertained in lines :)
That, and the joy of smart phones and eReader! I'm more worried about the heat, bit we will survive!
Expensive hotel wifi is why I gave up and bought a 3G data thumb drive thing. It's got a microSD slot so it doubles as a USB memory drive, but it also does 15Gb of data for a little over $15/month (I got a *great* deal) ... in the UK of course.
But as several of the hotel chains outsourced their wifi to a Swiss Telecom firm that charges £60/weekend (£15-£20/day) ... it doesn't take too many conventions to make the data stick worthwhile.
Alternatively, I have been known to use "tethering" and connect my mobile to my laptop and use the data modem in the phone ...
... have a lovely time at Chez Mouse!
Yeah, that definitely makes it worthwhile!
My daughter and new husband have been touring the U.S. on a Honeymoon road trip, using small motels and tenting in campgrounds when weather permits. At their one big "hotel stay", in Las Vegas, she was disgusted to find out it costs $$! She has been able to use libraries for free wi-fi pretty consistently! (Heck, here in New England, even MacDonald's has free wi-fi!!)
Mcdonalds here charges for wifi, but yeah, with ready transport it's easy to find free. Alas, the Mouse has us as a captive audience.
totally off topic I love that your using that icon. You would not believe the number of hours it took me to create the original piece of digital art that that icon is extracted from so to see anyone else using it gives me a real buzz
Thank you for allowing me to use it! It seems perfect for Disney!

Google "disney world wifi free" and you'll quickly find people noting the few places where one can actually get free wifi (some actually in the parks, some in DTD, etc.). Speculation is that these are mostly setup errors, but I found success reports as recently as June of this year.
That's if you're that desperate for wifi. I, for one, will understand if you're having too much fun to care about such things. Enjoy your trip!
I'm thinking that I won't be spending much time on computers--far better ways to spend it! But thanks!
There are *some* spots where you might snag some free wi-fi:
- Epcot Futureworld at Innoventions East
- Epcot - Lotus Blossom Cafe, stronger signal in the back
- Hollywood Studios - stand near Sorcerer's Hat on the Brown Derby side
- Magic Kingdom - stand outside City Hall
- Boardwalk boat loading area outside of Boardwalk resort
- Beach Club lobby
- Contemporary - outside of gift shop area
- Coronado Springs lobby
- Orlando International Airport
- Downtown Disney - DisneyQuest
- Downtown Disney - Wolfgang Pucks Express
- Downtown Disney - Sosa Family Cigar Co. (near Raglan Road, signal even strong outside)
- Downtown Disney - outside House of Blues (several)
It's not the best, but just in case you needed more of a signal. And yes, they definitely do it because they can. :P
Btw, have a great time! Can't wait to read about your experiences. :)
Thanks'. I will report as much as I can!

Re: are y'all going to be crazy busy?
Alas, with 15 family members, it's hard to know. We will get back to you?
I was just at DW at the end of June. I used my Blackberry for everything, including Twitter. Take THAT, Mouse!
That's my plan, with the iPhone.
