Some breakups just have to be [Aug. 15th, 2010|04:03 pm]
Zoethe
Dear Summer:

Over the years, I've gotten used to the on-again, off-again nature of our relationship. When I was younger, it used to devastate me when you'd lose interest and wander away, but I've come to accept that you can only be expected to hang around for a few months before you leave. I even understand that sometimes our relationship will be bright and breezy and filled with fun, while other times you will be moody and cool toward me. I know you have a hot temper that can flare up for weeks, and that some days you will be tempestuous and filled with tears. I have been patient with your moods over the years, and mostly stoic in my acceptance that those foul moods won't last forever and your sunny and pleasant side will return and I will be able to enjoy our time together until you kiss me farewell and go on your way.

But this year, Summer? This year? I'm breaking up with you. I wish I could say that it's not you, it's me - but this time it really is you. Instead of our usual breezy larks, you've been nothing but oppressive and hot tempered for months now. Even your tears and tempests have been short-lived relief from the continual, smothering atmosphere in which you've engulfed me. My time with you has been nothing but melancholy and nostalgia for the Summer I've known in the past. My only hope is that this fiery display of suffocating behavior is a phase and that your future visits will be more favorable in nature.

But I can't live with you anymore this year. If I try, I will only find myself dreading your next arrival. So I have to ask you to pack your things and leave now.

It's really for the best.

If it won't hurt you too much, I'd be fine in a permanent relationship with Summer...

I do want it to visit, just with a better temper next year.

If you really love it, you take it with the bad and the good...but I'm not possessive! Just so long as I get my share.

I completely disagree with that. I love my kids, but that doesn't mean I put up with bad behavior on their part. Nor my husband being a jerk. I have my self-respect, you know!!

I'm with you, and I'm afraid that from now on Summer's relationship with ALL of is is going to be mostly like this year.

Not where I live, it isn't (but any summer you can spare, feel free to send it this way)

We had 'summer weather' for about ten hours a saturday in mid-july, and again for three hours in the morning a couple weeks ago. This morning the temperature outside is close to 40 F. Four days this year have (barely) breached 70 F, and two of them were may 16 and 17.

There are no local strawberries this year due to extensive frost damage after a january thaw coated the fields with a thick layer of ice under the snow, which effectively burned the soil. A number of other harvests were also impacted.

Not only did you use one of cleolinda's icons, you used it to complain about one of her summers visiting you. I approve.

This is one of the reasons why I shall never live in Texas, though I could consider Arizona or New Mexico. I can take dry heat, but humidity just kills me.

We've actually had a moderate pleasant week, after REALLY hot July. And your right, the rains we've had this Summer don't bring any relief!

It's still been beastly here. This is the only time when I pine for the 70s!

I don't like extreme heat or the sun beating down on me. I was actually looking forward to warmer temperatures after this past extremely cold winter, but the last two months hasn't been exactly fun either. I would happy with it being October year around, at least how October is in mid-Michigan.

The leaves on the trees are already turning here, in Florida, and we just opened the house for the first time. Had it not been for the humidity, which I cannot breathe well, we'd have left the windows open. The autumn flowers appeared on the roadside early too.

I'm just as glad to give summer the boot, it's been rotten and muggy and unpleasant the whole time.

The constancy if the heat has been exhausting. Where are our weeks of 70s and dry???

Exactly. It's been relentless and oppressive. It's not unusual for us to have heat in the mid 80s and humidity almost 100% in late summer, but it is unusual to be hitting the 100s, which we've been doing for some time.

I'm ready for autumn.

Hey Zoethe, now that you've dumped Summer, would it um..well, would it be ok if Summer and I started dating? I can't say that Summer's been all that nice to me either this year but maybe it was due to existing relations with you. And well....now that you've relinquished your claim...maybe things will be better. I'm sure we can all still be friends.

I don't mind at all; I'm just glad summer has cooled to me at least a little!
