The paint should be done except for touchups by the end of tomorrow, but we found out that the paint guy also refinished floors. Anyone who has been here knows that we suffer a carpet that should have been buried a decade ago, so that is going as well. We've been setting aside money for a new range, but I told Ferrett that the flooring is a much higher priority, particularly since the new walls make it look so BAD. And why not do it now, when all the junk is already hauled out of the upstairs, rather than wait a few months and have to haul it all again?

By the end of next week, we will have completely redone the shell of our main living areas. Window treatments for the bedrooms will have to be next. Kitchen changes will have to wait another year, but it's totally worth what we're getting done. Pictures by the weekend!

Are you getting carpets, or hardwood?

Very cool. It's always refreshing mentally to make some changes whether big or small. I always love to see what other people do because I can get ideas too.

The short answer is that we went a little nuts. But it's totally going to be worth it!

You're motivating me to paint over the wallpaper in my kitchen. I've been staring at it for 17 years, wanting to change it. Someone told me today that it was in such good shape, I should just paint over it rather than strip it first. The idea of stripping the wallpaper was a sticking point, for sure. Now I'm trying to choose colors in my mind. :) You'll be happy you did your floors now. I can just about guarantee it.

I'm happy and they aren't even done yet!

The kitchen wallpaper is another issue, but one that will be dealt with primarily by removing the kitchen wall - just not this year!

For the record, I'm jealous now. I WISH we could get new carpet through the house. I'm half terrified of what we'll find under it, but I've wanted to chuck the ugly formerly-mauve since before we moved in!

Ugly formerly-mauve describes our carpet perfectly, except in the one carpeted bedroom, which is blue-green. But the other two bedrooms have hardwood floors, so I knew that hardwood is under the carpet throughout the house. I can't wait!!!

Oh, god, though--dust and fumes. Hope you survive. But it will be gorgeous. And lots better than two move-outs.

Definitely better than doing this twice!
