Fresh air and perspective [Sep. 26th, 2010|03:16 pm]
Zoethe
Ferrett dragged me out of the house. Even if it was only to go to Lowe's and Home Depot to figure out more ways to spend our money, it at least gave me a little perspective and I was able to come back home and not immediately hyperventilate upon entering the kitchen.

Several people suggested hotels, which is not a bad idea except we are way over budget on this project - the floors are coming as a great deal, but they were not planned for - and I know that being in a hotel means that I will inevitably not have things I need and will be trekking back and forth. But someone suggested tenting it in the back yard, and I'm kind of digging that idea. We have a three-room tent we've never used. We could put the bed from the guestroom into one room, the love seat and massage chair from the living room into another, and get a lot of the furniture out of the way for the flooring project. And with an extension cord from the garage, we can run lights and computers. It would also let me be away from all the dust and fumes involved in this project, which is definitely better for me healthwise.

Ferrett may shoot this idea down, and I have to check the weather forecasts, but it has possibilities.

That sounds like the perfect compromise to me, especially concerning the dust and fumes. It's not like you'll really be roughing it either, since you'll be able to go into your house any second to get something you might need, or use the bathroom. Hooray!

As I suspected, he was not in the least thrilled with the idea. We'll see....

That .... actually sounds like a really good and fun idea! I'll keep my fingers crossed that this idea will work out for you. I know exactly what kind of issues you're dealing with as I have the same ones ... and I've had to have boxes stacked around for the last couple of years with the constant moving and such.

Best of luck keeping your wits about you.

Ferrett shot down the idea on the first pass, but we'll give him some time to think about it.

oh, I hope this will work for you! It SOUNDS like a good idea, and would most certainly be cheaper than a hotel. Which means it would be better for your SPIRIT than a hotel.

I don't like hotel rooms in general, so this would be superior in that sense. But Ferrett is not thrilled with the idea, so it may not fly. I may just have to make good use of the Starbucks around the corner.

I think this idea is super, but I might start with moving out the most weather resistant furniture.

Which is absolutely none of it.

Ferrett is full of askance at the idea. It may not happen at all. But I may take up residence at the nearby Starbucks for next few days.

Cool idea - especially since you have to take apart and move the bed anyway.

My poor obsessive-compulsive cat nearly had a nervous breakdown when the kitchen was being worked on. She did NOT like her abode being messed with for an extended period.

This just all happened so abruptly, and so thoroughly, that there was no time to prepare.

Probably just as well, but I'm still taken aback by the suddenness of the upheaval. You're supposed to have a bit of a run-up to such things, not, "okay, let's start tomorrow"!

Well...you could stay in the tent yourself, couldn't you? Let him rough it in the house if he wants to? ;)

I suppose I could, but I do need cooperation in getting the thing set up and furniture brought out to it!

Yeah, it probably isn't going to happen, but it was an amusing idea.

I don't know if I'd move all that stuff out to the tent unless it makes that much difference to finding places to put things. Table, chairs, and love seat would be enough for you to work and have a bit of a rest.

If it is cold where you are, you might prefer to sleep in your bedroom oasis, but I have found in my experience just a table lamp can take the chill off enough to get to sleep - but then I also usually wear a hat when I sleep in my tent.

We have a two room palace that we usually set up with a queen sized mattress and sleeping bags in one room, and two chairs and a big Rubbermaid box (also home for the bedding) as a table. It is very comfy here in Canada from late April to sometime about now.

I have no doubt that we could be comfy at it, but I don't think he's going to go for it.

I'm doing better now, though. Getting out of the house helped.

I love tent life! Was considering taking a road trip just to have an excuse. Do it!

He's completely unconvinced. And for tonight at least, we are still fine in the house. Once they start pulling up old carpet, we'll see....

Low 50s and damp overnights, not notably warmer daytimes. And rain M-T-maybe-W. :-/ Maybe not the week for that idea, sorry ...

The way you describe your tent setup makes me think of a Harry Potter-world tent. It sounds wicked cool :)

It would be. Alas, things are looking wet and untenable. Sigh.

That sounds like a perfectly reasonable argument to set it up. Even if you don't move a lot of furniture in there or live in there, it would make for an easier temporary respite from the dust and stuff than going somewhere does. Health is important.

Darn the wet and untenable. It sounded like a great idea to me. Ferret would have followed you eventually. Dang.

We shall see what tomorrow brings. For right now, inside is working for me. I've been hiding in the bedroom for two days now.
