Because I'm writing on iPhone, I misquoted the speaker. "Cute little Latino workers" was the whole statement. So yeah, position of relative power plus diminutive.

The "correct" term is "lady lawyer."

The point is she's a lawyer , 'cute', 'little' and 'female' are unnecessary additions, in the same way as "cute ,little and Latino" are unnecessary descriptors of workers. Not only unnecessary but patronizing.

you're right in that its absolutely inappropriate.

she's also right in that yes, women DO hear that sort of thing all the time in the south. (i'm from, and in, houston, texas.) it doesnt make it right, but it happens.

I think the look on my face conveyed that, "How is THAT appropriate?!" response, because she immediately backed down and agreed it was inappropriate.
