|Because "the bitch" was already taken

"She needs...to feed. She's always hungry." And with that offhand remark, I inadvertently named my sourdough starter "Shelob."|
I like this. More than I should admit to.
God, I wonder what you'd call the friendship bread starter.
i called it "the beast which would NOT die" when mama foisted it off on me. ;)
===Great...Giant Yeast Spiders. Next thing we know, you will make english muffins, using spidersilk-gene tainted milk of goats, and we will never win the all-out baking battle.
===However, that is an awesome name.
Stop making me laugh out loud at work; people will start asking questions.
Also, I may have to name my starter now.
I don't generally name things. But starter is a kind of pet....
Took me a minute to get the reference. In that minute, my brain went to two places: "Oh, is that the noise it makes when you knead the dough?" And, "Shelob...she lobbed it at someone? At their head? What on earth did they do to deserve that?"
This is why I don't footnote. Much more amusing!
You are the second person I know who thinks of their sourdough starter as an entity. The other person thought of it as an additional pet that needed feeding and care regularly, and gave back love and yummy bread.
That's exactly what it is!
