Daughter Erin and I had a biking date with friends this evening, just a leisurely hour of riding. But it was a gorgeous day, so I decided to bike commute into town this morning. on the way back, I took the detour that takes me through a beautiful park by the lake, but ends with a nasty climb. So when we took the ride down into the gorge where the bike trail is, I was a little trepidatious about the climb back out. |
We met up with the other two couples in the parking lot of the marina. "Where did you park?" they asked.
"Um, at home?" (To be fair, we live considerably closer to the park than either of them.) We rode a leisurely 8 miles round-trip and it was fun.
Then I had to face the hill. "I'll meet you at the top," I said to Erin. "I'll be walking up."
We made the climb out! Then to celebrate, Erin and I biked down to a local bar and had drinks, then biked on home.
Total for the evening: 17. Total for the day: 39. Finally over 100 miles on my bike for the year. By this time last year I was well into my 300s, so I have lots of time to make up. But it feels great to be out there again.
You are an inspiration to me once again. My longest ride so far this spring is 12 miles. Haven't hit 100 total yet. More snow due here day after tomorrow :( That's my lame excuse.
It's been my lame excuse, too. On Sunday I finally realized that I had to stop waiting for nice weather and rode 15 miles in a drizzle.
I may have to upgrade my iPhone case, but otherwise I am remarkably waterproof. I have to remember that.
Yay for bike outings to nice places! I'm up to 800 miles so far this year, but none of it was to nice places.
800? Wow! I'm very impressed.
In 3 mile chunks :-p Bike is how I get places I want to be, we don't have a car (and are very lucky to live close enough to "places I want to be" that this is a sensible proposition).
Well done! thanks for the reminder to get off my duff and get on my bike again.
Very cool to be able to weave your exercise right into your day like that.
